How many votes are needed to get to the front page?

How long ago was that? Some said 10 votes did it for them back in the day.

There is one that made the front page on 23 votes today.

There's a correspondence between views and Upvotes, I had 178 views with 18 Upvotes. The algorithm they use must take in account of the views/Upvote ratio. That's what I believe. There's probably more factors calculated like time but I have no idea haw many things they use.

I think that the number of comments factors into it as well.

Got most of my points by commenting. We're about pretty much the same give or take 100k points and 1k in comments + submissions.

I noticed lately it may happen more on the weekends, when things slow down some maybe? I often go straight to Latest rather than Hot, get em fresh out the gate before things get too busy, so I'm not too sure,,,

Yea, it's also about the competition you're up against that makes the whole thing getting to the Front Page that can really make the whole affair quite dynamic. All of these people vying for the Front Page can make the outcome of any algorithm really change greatly. I like in a way that it's kinda "Mysterious", the "I have no clue what's gonna happen" factor keeps it all interesting and new. :)

It sounds silly, but I sometimes get itchy, like claustrophobic or watching a Tim Burton movie and want to run off.
Plus my tablet messes up too at times, so keeping up with tons can be impractical. So I go elsewhere.
But it is interesting trying to figure how it happens. Remember late last year when like a 22 month old one finally wended it's way to the FP?

Lol. I see reposts getting there as well, and I mean reposts that I've even seen on FB! Now, to be fair, the submitter doesn't always know it's a repost, but I know quite a few know better, but hey, they should also be congratulated for pulling that off, too! Right and wrong. At this moment in time its right. I have seen it during the busy period needing close to 40 upvotes to make it to the front page (I'd say this is when everyone is back in school and more traffic is on the site.)

Based on my observations in the last few days 25+ does the trick. It will always be different of course.

It was hanging on the top of page 2 with 27 votes then got promoted when the old memes above it moved down. The Kermit "Spoiler Alert" by MnMinPhx had 28 votes when it made the front.

27 votes is the current trigger. I've just voted The Grumpy Cat boner meme from 26 votes to 27 and seen it go front page.

This one by TONYRWHINCUP made it to the front on 23 votes!
