Does comments affect the ranking of memes in the hot pages?

Who did this come from?

Currently on page 19 with 4 votes and 16 comments. There are memes with 4 votes above and below it with less comments.

The problem tracking the movement is that the ranks are updated in real time but rather delayed. 5 votes now. no movement.

6 votes and 20 comments now still on page 19 same position. with a 4 vote meme above it. lol

Finally an update. Moved to page 11 on with 6 votes 22 comments. Just above one with 51 views, 3 votes & 5 comments. But more interestingly behind this Confession Bear by loops-z-loop with 70 views, 6 votes and 3 comments. So comments doesn't count when when you're getting more votes per view!

still no updates, same position, same page at 8 votes, 31 comment

Checked at about noon Eastern Time 8/11/17, now near the bottom of page 7

Overall interaction does help push a meme to the front page. The more interaction, the more likely the meme makes the front page. However, just commenting won't do it. MemesterMemesterson tried it a while back.

It's a combination of comments, views, and upvotes. Although, the number of downvotes can effect the outcome as well.

Views and the ratio of upvotes to downvotes is a much bigger factor, but comments help.

I'm not just trying to spam for the sake of it, but to see how it ranks. :)

I wasn't here then, but I'm guessing that one made the front page. I'm pretty sure where a meme ends up in hot is an algorithm, I would guess upvotes carry much more weight than comments.

Wow so many! But all of them seems to be spamming for the sake of it. :)
Do you know how many comments it has? Don't see the comment count by following that link.

That one didn't get to far, I count 12 comments. I think there is an easy way to see that type of data directly from the memes, I think Ctrl+i (inspect) on Windows with Chrome or Firefox will show you some additional webpage info/metadata. I'm at work on my phone, not sure how to do that in Android.
