I think people do this a lot. They see something on TV or read something on FB and suddenly they have three Phd's and a doctorate..

The problem is t.v they edit out all the real shit, issues, problems, and condence it all into a half hour or hour show. Thats why most trades are 4 yr apprenticeships. Theres real knowledge needed to this stuff, not a season of love it or f**k it.

And they make house buying look like a two day process. I've seen these shows on tv and they make it seem like a mental patient with down syndrome can walk up and buy a house in one day.

Yeah. I mean I think teaching ones self how to do repairs etc is a good idea (Save money), but when a professional comes to do the job... Don't act like you know more than the guy who went to school for it. I see people do stuff like that all the time at like, stores. Pretty annoying.

Doing work for people flipping houses always gets a little screwey because the dont understand timing and steps involved and have trades working on top of eachother. Crammed in cuz they gotta put the house on the market like NOW! That gets very frustrating. Again tv they do it in a week. Real life not so much.

Yeah "Reality" TV is really best watched with a grain of salt. Im a photographer myself, and it's very easy to fool people by just clipping a scene and/or moving it / editing it.

And eggshell is not a colour.

Is that a private matter between eggshell and you? Because Google says it is a colour.... :-)

Well see, withh all the different brands of paints, they all have different names for their colours, for one brand let's say, is kokanee grey, but in another brand a colour very very simialar may be called mystic fog. There are so many wierd names for colours whoever thinks them up must be pretty chill. What eggshell refers to the sheen or finish of the paint as followes;
Flat - cielings
Matte- walls
Egshell-walls
Satin - walls or trim
Mellamine- doors n trim n cabinets
Semi-gloss- doors n trim
High gloss.- doors n trim n shop walls
Believe me, I go through this alot.

Now I have learned something. Really did not know about so many opportunities. We only choose between matte, semi gloss or high gloss when we paint a room.
[deleted]
4 ups, 8y
Yeah. That's cool. Semi gloss is death for a taper cuz you can see all the taping shit like joints n screws, especially darker colours. I started using mellamine a couple years ago for doors n trim because of its durability, excellent washability amd a nice not too sharp sheen. Covers well when sprayed.

LOL, My brother and sister-in-law thought the same thing, they bought a house that needed work and figured they would slap on some work gloves and an old pair of sneakers, invite some of their dippy friends over and boom, new kitchen in one weekend. Everything they tired tripped them up, uneven floors, cracked beams, termites, mold, bad wiring, etc. That’s what they don’t show in those dumb ass DIY shows, what the hell do you do when you pull up the floor and the subfloor is so uneven you can race soap box derby’s down it. I think that’s what really screws people.

We have a $500 minimum on any job and a customer produced a quote from a competitor for $350. "I was hoping you could beat it and maybe come in at $275?" Our COSTS are more than $275 ...

Idiot wasting my time. Sheesh man ... It was 60 miles away.

And people think "corporations" are greedy ...

That happens alot. I dont believe in undercutting, if you can get it that much cheeper, theres probably a reason. How about when they ask for a cash price, then at the end of a job they try and hand you a cheque. Whoa, that wasnt the deal, back to original price, then they try n find fault in your work after they say they loved it. For every shit head I deal with, I got a dozen happy AF clients. work weekends, late nights, hollidays, wont someone just ask how I'm doin? Not just "when are you finished?"

Just because you have done something for 25 years. Doesn't mean that you have been doing it correctly for 25 years.
