Oh, no. As an atheist, I fully support you having a religion. As long as you're not hurting anyone, go for it. I don't care. That's your business.
But that's not Christian Nationalism.
They begin by saying "This was a nation founded by Christians, for Christians, and it should only be for Christians." It goes further with claiming that all laws need to be based on their interpretation of the Bible. Only Christians can be "Real Americans".
And those "real Americans" have to look, dress, and act a certain way.
They say things like Men are natural leaders. Women have to support their husbands, no matter what. A woman's job is to create "a home." It's really to provide a space that caters to the man. Fire out some kids. Get the laundry done and have dinner on the table.
And the idealization of the "Free Market" capitalism. They say things like "If any political and economic system fit with the religious teachings of Christ, it would have to be rooted in a similarly individualistic ethos. Nothing better exemplified such values than the capitalist system of free enterprise."
If you're thinking "yeah, that's what I think" then you're a Christian Nationalist.
And why is that bad? Because it demands that women give up any thought of having their on lives and careers. They exist to serve a man. Be his wife. Bear his children. Do the laundry. Make dinner. That's it.
It demands a strict adherence to gender norms. That's short hair for men. Long hair for women. Women have to be sexually attractive to men. At all times.
And that 'men are leaders' thing doesn't mean all men. It's just white men. They say things like "this is a meritocracy" but what they really do is promote white dudes whether or not they can do that job.
Anyone who doesn't conform to this idea – white men are in charge, women subordinate themselves to men, men look & act a certain way, women look & act a certain way – they're punished.
It's why it was okay to beat up someone for being gay. Or black. or anything that didn't serve White Men being in charge.
That's why Hegseth is the Secretary of Defense. He's not qualified to do the job. He's got no experience. He's shown no merit. He was a backup weekend anchor on Fox. He does have experience dealing with the media, so he could have been a Press Sec for the oval office.
He's there because Christian Nationalism says being white & man is merit enough.
