No, it actually was staged. He started tilting his head before the impact (it's hard to tell since the gif is low fps) and the ball doesn't have a shadow when it returns.
Similar experiments have measured the bowling ball moving at 4.2 m/s (roughly 9 mph) and this one is likely moving much faster after being pushed. (I can't give exact speeds since we don't know any measurements, but I would assume it's traveling at least 12 mph)
