How do we know that? If it were, then it would be spending a lot more time and energy expanding paid family leave, free early childhood education, raising the minimum wage, and effecting other common-sense expansions to the social safety net that would help support more American women in a voluntary decision to raise a child. Yet Republican proposals to do any of these things are basically nonexistent. WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON HERE? Something far more disturbing. The "pro-life" label betrays a pathological need to define political opponents as "baby-killers." The antecedent for this in early modern history is the "blood libel" that was directed at Jews and used to justify anti-Semitic pogroms. A modern twist on this bigotry is QAnon, an internet conspiracy theory which claims, essentially, that "deep state" Democrats are pedophiles.
