Abuse is abuse — this high-profile case reminds us it can happen to anyone. | I’ve posted a few times now about #FreeBritney. Since I started really looking into this case, it’s only gotten deeper and weirder:; 1. She was once made to perform with a fever of 106 degrees. 2. She can’t date, marry, leave the house, or even see friends without approval. 3. She was made to have an IUD insertion: forced contraception. 4. Despite having no major substance abuse issues, she was forced to take drug tests multiple times per week. A judge in her case once ruled she’d have to be totally clean for a whole year before he’d even think of terminating the conservatorship. 5. Her father has drinking and anger issues of his own which have gone largely unexamined. He’s compared his daughter to a racehorse who needs to be tamed like one. 6. The “conservatorship” blocked her from doing simple remodels to her own home for supposedly being “too expensive.” It controls her life to the point of choosing the color of her kitchen cabinets. 7. Despite having earned millions in her career, she was made to live on a stipend of $2,000/week. 8. In a quirk of the “conservatorship,” she has to pay the legal fees of *both* her father’s lawyer and the court-appointed lawyer who is (supposedly) representing her. She once received a bill for $1 million, vastly more than the kitchen remodeling that was supposedly too expensive.
