It doesn't matter so much who controls the means of production, time is the only true determination of value. What you do with time determines the value of your time. When you work for wages, all you are really doing is selling your limited resource of time and access to specific skills you possess that you are willing to use during time. Ogg learned early on that everyone could gather sticks and rocks, so he decided to develop specialized skills scaling cliffs and collecting obsidian which he sharpened and traded to Ugg to put on the tips of sticks. Then Ugg killed mastodons more easily than he could with common rocks. Ugg got sharp rocks, Ogg got fresh steak. Ugg then traded his excess mastodon hides and steaks to Erg who tore the hides with his bare hands and provided Ugg with clothing and loose fitting shoes. However, Erg faced competition when Guchee traded edible plants he gathered for Ogg's sharp rocks and Ugg's excess mastodon hides. He cut the hides into tight fitting, stylish shoes and form fitting clothing. Oolala found she could trade valuable services for shiny rocks and spectacular seashells that Jon gathered on the seashore (establishing the first profession which was followed quickly by lawyers). She then persuaded Ogg, Ugg, Erg and Jon to accept spectacular seashells and shiny rocks in exchange for products and services, which formed the basis for currency. Oolala used her excess spectacular seashells and shiny rocks to accumulate dozens of pairs of tight fitting shoes from Guchee, steaks from Ugg and protection services from Erg when Guchee forced him out of the shoe and clothing business. Ogg, Ugg, Guchee and Oolala all accumulated various items from barter which became the basis for wealth. Erg, whose investment in time had limited demand, accumulated fewer excess items to exchange. Eventually, due to the convenience of transporting Oolala's preferred medium of trade as opposed to transporting mastodon carcasses, spectacular seashells and shiny rocks became the coin of the realm. Og DuPont eventually came along and figured out how to store winter ice in deep caves so mastodon steaks didn't rot before you could eat them, inventing technology and expanding the marketplace of ideas and products. Not merely taking a bigger slice of the pie, he made the pie of the early economy larger so that more people prospered and life was improved for everyone. JON'S DESCENDANTS WENT ON TO CREATE CENTRAL BANKS. Lawyers, on the other hand could not figure out how to acquire raw resources or make anything of value, so they developed a method of taking things away from producers and defending producers from having things taken away, which eventually spun off into the profession of politics. So similar to Erg, you invested your time into something with little demand or use, a degree in Gender Studies and Marxist Theory. Having no exchange value, you find yourself stuck making and serving coffee to the Ogg's, Ugg's, Guchee's, Oolala's and DuPonts, because they produce and accumulate things of more value with their use of time.
