What they really reflect is seasonal variations from decaying vegetable matter. Is it necessary to point out that the highest concentrations of CO2 are not near population centers? This image is a composite of CO2 level from satellite observations combining the seasons. Notice how much CO2 is coming from the oceans? Naturally dying algae, plankton and seaweed produces CO2. Most importantly, each of these images footnote that the image has been enhanced for clarity.
