Christians wanted to obscure the origin, so they randomized its date. Now it's the 1st Sunday following the full moon 🌕 after the Equinox. Thus it can occur anytime between March 22nd to April 25th. Significantly, in some parts of the world the shape of the hare is visible in the face of the 🌕 further reinforcing the mystical connection between the two. The hare is renowned for its fertility, & it is in this guise that it is simplified as the Easter 🐰. The Springtime Goddess, Easter, governs the cycles of fertility & so her symbol is the 🥚, hence the chocolate eggs given to children at Easter, a remnant of a Pagan tradition that has never been satisfactorily explained away by its Christian adoptees. The fact that an animal is not eaten 🚫 is generally a sign that it has sacred status, & certain Muslim sects refused to eat the flesh of the hare because they believe that it is the reincarnation of Ali, the Prophet's son-in-law, who intercedes between true believers and Allah. Pre-Christian Celtic ☘ people similarly regarded the hare as being too sacred to consider eating; they were kept as pets. Because of its fecundity & gregarious nature, the 🐇 is a symbol of love and peace for some Native Americans. There's a courtship ritual called the Rabbit Dance 👯. The Algonquin tribe believe that the world was created by the hare Manibozo. The Menomonee call Him Menebuch & say that He came down from the heavens to educate human kind in all His ways, & to protect us from monsters and evil spirits 👻. Three hares joined at the ears & running in a circle in the form of a triskele, is a mysterious ancient symbol that seems to have transcended cultural boundaries & geographical borders. At the center of the circle, the ears of the hares form an equilateral triangle. This motif appears in Buddhist ☸️ caves 2500 years old; in Muslim ☪️ artwork and designs; in synagogues ✡ & in several places of Christian ✝️ worship throughout Europe. There is no definitive interpretation of the symbol although it may represent the attributes of the Triple Goddess, an age old concept that transcends religious dogma. The lily is the symbol of the Goddess, in whatever form she may take, & the Babylonian Goddess Lilith ⚸ (the first wife of Adam) who was later demonized 👿 by the Christian church, takes her name from the name of the lily or the Lilu (Lotus). The flower is also sacred to Astarte, whose name in parts of Europe is Eostre, which gives us the word "Easter"; hence the lilies which have become a symbol of the springtime celebration are a secret symbol of a much older association. If the Milky Way 🌌 is seen as the milk which poured from breasts of the Sky Goddess, then lilies are the💧of milk which fell to the ground. The fleur-de-lis ⚜ or flower of the lily, is the stylized symbol which sprang from both the lotus and the lily. It is symbolic of the Triple Goddess as well as encompassing all the other associations of the lily; it was used extensively in France 🇫🇷, where it became a symbol of royalty 👑 & nobility. The lily--particularly the calla lily--is also a symbol of resurrection, which is why it is used at funerals & sometimes appears on gravestones. The day lily blooms only for one day, & so is a simple symbol of a carefree nature. The lily of the valley has our reputation for attracting silver - probably because the way it's white flowers gleam in the darkness of its luscious leaves. It was the flower which grew where witches 🧙‍♀️ lived, in dark, often forested places, yet was also a symbol of spring and new life.
