Failed attempt at cultural imperialism.

Failed attempt at cultural imperialism. | Centuries ago, there was an incident where a pair of missionaries heard about a Gathering of Nations & thought it would be a good opportunity to convert Native People. They traveled a few hundred miles west of the Appalachian mountains to reach it.
They learned that there would be storytelling,
& joined that event to spread their beliefs. Because they had come from furthest away, they were invited to speak first. So they started talking about the Creation in the Book of Genesis & continued on to the life of
Jesus, summarizing the Bible in a couple of hours,
& when they were done the listeners praised
them & said that indeed that was the beginning of everything. Then another group spoke & started
telling their tribe's story of how the world started, but the missionaries interrupted them and said "No that's not the truth! We just told you the truth & you agreed with us! Why are you saying something different now?" The Native People were disturbed by their attitude & told them "We allowed you to tell your
story without interruption; & found merit in how
you see things. So why will you not do the same
for us?" They did not gain any converts that day. | image tagged in american indians, jesuit to natives, diversity, christianity, tolerance, history | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
