The newest major U.S. refinery came online in 1977. Democrat-run states expressly announced their desire to reduce fossil fuel production. California, for example, had 38 operating refineries in 1982; as of this year, it has only 12, a 68% reduction in capacity.

In 2025, Lyondell Basell ended refining operations at its Houston refinery, which had a capacity of about 264,000 barrels per day. Phillips 66 shut its Los Angeles refinery, which had a capacity of another 139,000 barrels per day. Valero’s 145,000-barrel-per-day Benicia refinery followed.

Gas prices dropped to all time lows during covid. Negative numbers per barrel if i recall correctly. The problem is they still use it for generators and to help out during peak hours.

A barrel sold for 0 dollars but the consumer still paid a price. Funny how it worked that way. If everyone stayed home for a week, does that mean we could lower the gas price,? Lol like I totally remember the covid dystopia. I go to the store and wonder all the time how everything gets sold, especially the parishable stuff when prices are so high. I wonder where the expired food goes, or the meat because I'm pretty sure their is a large waste problem in this economy.

Its basic economics. If you start with a $0 price you gotta add in shipping, processing, refining, and the the final transport and markup at the gas station.
Law of supply and demand: when supply is low prices go up when its high prices go down. They just put it on sale and people bought it in the cheap.

This whole year round republican lead push to have ethenol enriched gas sure did a wonder to the gas price. In face I shouldn't be charged for the rate of petroleum when gas includes ethanol. The discount is laughable for the Republican pushed ethanol enriched fuels. I'm a independent humanitarian. Nothing makes sense.

Actually you would think the use of electric vehicles would increase the supply of petroleum and lower the demand, but I guess that's not how the greedy economy works anymore.

He's dumping Strategic oil reserves and making deals with Venezuela.

The price of gas per gallon right now across the US is $4 a gallon. When Trump TOOK OFFICE, it was $3 a gallon.

No. Your forgetting the price of gas rose is 33% higher than it was when Trump TOOK office. Whatever gains he made are now offset.
