BS. Maybe Willa Cather thought she had to hide it, but everyone knew. Gay Hollywood? Everyone knew, but the actors kept acting successfully. The fear and discrimination thing was pretty much gone in the 60's except for the people who tried to jamb their lifestyle down peoples throats, it was live and let live. Gay architectural designers? Assumed and hired because they were the best. There were gay business owners in the farm towns I've lived around, in the mining towns I've lived around and in the oilfield towns I worked around. Nobody shunned them, they lived their lives quietly like everyone else. The "discrimination" started when activists added the whole alphabet to their sexual preferences and paraded down streets naked demanding to force their views on young children and everyone else whether you like it or not. Try acting civilized and see how big an issue it is.

Some gay actors in Hollywood doesn't mean society was accepting of gay people

You think the fear and discrimination was gone in the 60's? It's 2026 and there's still people who hate gays and lesbians and say they deserve to die. There are people who wish they could fire people for being gay. Conservatives are making a push to not only outlaw same-sex marriage, but same-sex activity between adults. For conservatives it was never live and let live, which is the whole reason gay people were forced to hide who they were, so they wouldn't be harassed or fired or discriminated against or attacked or murdered, like countless LGBTQ people in this country.

Gay people used to be thrown in prison, just for being gay and having consensual sex with other adults. Stop pretending that gay people were never discriminated against in this country.

You're confusing people being open about who they are with shoving their life down other people's throat. If a straight couple walks into a restaurant with five kids are they shoving their straight lifestyle down everybody's throat? No. And if a gay couple walks into the restaurant, they aren't shoving anything down anybody's throat.

Conservatives say that racism doesn't exist while spreading racism, and they say hatred of LGBTQ people doesn't exist while spreading hatred of LGBTQ people.

You don't understand a single thing about this issue. Gay pride parades started because gay people were tired of being forced to hide who they were, and they were tired of being mistreated and discriminated against. Gay pride parades started as a result of discrimination, not the other way around. And nobody in the LGBTQ community is forcing anything on children. That's another lie spread by conservatives.

Nobody "added the whole alphabet to sexual preferences". I know this is a difficult issue for conservatives to understand.
