Christians Prefer to Remain Ignorant of What the Bible Says. | Christians prefer ignorance
 because it gives them permission
 to continue to hate:
 hate equality for women,
hate equity for people of color,
hate gays and trans,
hate foreigners--
you name it, they hate all these
because their god told them to. | image tagged in christians, patriarchy, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, hate | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

A lot of conservatives have the mindset that LGBTQ people weren't discriminated against back when they had to hide who they were, even though they had to hide who they were *because* they were being discriminated against

BS. Maybe Willa Cather thought she had to hide it, but everyone knew. Gay Hollywood? Everyone knew, but the actors kept acting successfully. The fear and discrimination thing was pretty much gone in the 60's except for the people who tried to jamb their lifestyle down peoples throats, it was live and let live. Gay architectural designers? Assumed and hired because they were the best. There were gay business owners in the farm towns I've lived around, in the mining towns I've lived around and in the oilfield towns I worked around. Nobody shunned them, they lived their lives quietly like everyone else. The "discrimination" started when activists added the whole alphabet to their sexual preferences and paraded down streets naked demanding to force their views on young children and everyone else whether you like it or not. Try acting civilized and see how big an issue it is.

Were you alive in the 60s? There are still people who hate Jews and say they deserve to die. Do you think humanity is moving to perfection and bliss? Just because you change the definition of marriage, that doesn't make a counterfeit real. Marriage is between a woman and a man- primarily for protection of children. Why do people's preferred method of orgasm have anything to do with marriage? You know that domestic violence rates are higher in same sex marriages, right?
Moral equivalence is always a shallow argument.
5 kids in a restaurant is shoving straight life in people's faces? What? Are they having sex on the table when they wait for desert? All June we are ordered to accept parades where people simulate sex acts on floats and parade nude. And cheer. No, gay pride parades didn't rise out of oppression. They are driven by defiance and self righteousness.
Where were gay people thrown in prison? Nazi Germany was one place. Communist Russia another. They get thrown off the roof of 5 story buildings in Islamic countries. Gays have had open sex in Saint Patrick's Cathedral in NYC to protest. Death sentence? No. Charged with Public Indecency, yes. If you're gay you can break the law and destroy law and order with impunity? Straight- well you better not expect enforcement of law, because you're just a bigot and a hater.
Study Logical fallacy. You've fallen for it hook line and sinker. I know that's a difficult concept for ignorant, indoctrinated people to understand, you don't have to be part of the group. When the facts don't match the premise, check your premise. Give me stats on gay imprisonment in the US. We haven't had anti-sodomy law enforcement for ages. Give me stats on why discriminated gays are in higher income brackets in higher percentages than their % of population. (It's a fact).

The thief on the cross didn't know the Bible, didn't get baptized, didn't go through confirmation classes, didn't speak in tongues, and yet Jesus told him, "Assuredly I say to you, you will be with Me in Paradise today. " How is that? Faith. The thief believed that Jesus was the Son of God. Read Matthew 7 about the self righteous. There is no such thing as an atheist knowing the Bible. If you know the Bible, it is not possible to be an atheist.

Plural words in Hebrew end in im, so abbas does not translate as fathers. It's a totally different word than Abba because of that English S. Jesus was not arrested for sedition, he had done nothing against Roman law. Truly is an inspiring story because of the 300 fulfilled prophecies of the Old Testament regarding Christ. The innocent paid the wages of sin so the guilty could go free.
You should read the Bible, the precision is fascinating.

Curious things in the Bible. All the prophecy regarding Jesus first coming got locked into history with the the Hebrew to Greek translation of the Septuagint. Roughly 300 years before Christ, longer than the US has been a nation. 700 years before Christ there are references to crucifixion, a form of execution invented by the Persians and not used until around 100 BC. Tons of specfic prophecy, very detailed about Christ before that. 1500 years before Christ, Israel was brought out of Egypt, ordered to march and camp in ranks, a specific width for the formation, camping in line with the cardinal points of the compass. When you get to the census of numbers, and sketch out the population numbers of the 4 groups of three tribes, the ariel view of the camps is a cross. If you study the genealogies, and the meanings of the names, in the order given, you get the Gospel message. Too many accurate things to just be coincidence.

All those people wandering around in circles for 40 years woulf tend to leave some detritus behind. Archaeological evidence of that? Sure, go ahead and post that also.

Down to the nation? You can add that Bible verse to the ones I'm still waiting on about this Egyptian census and cross formation wandering the desert also.

Just curious, instead of giving me this X-Files spiel, why not just post the verses that says all this stuff about a census of a population of Jews of which there was no historical evidence of having been held captive in Egypt and cross formations wandering around in circles in the Sinai desert that would otherwise have taken just 2 days to cross but didn't because Yahweh lost his GPS.

I'd love to see it.

You clearly don't read the Bible, it's called the book of Numbers. Get it? Numbers. Numbers. When you want to have an honest discussion, I would be happy to, but in the meantime, I have much better things to do. Thanks for some of the decent questions you asked. I tried to help.
2 ups, 3w
Oh yes, you need to read history too. Archeological evidence exposes your ignorance on the subject.
3 ups, 3w
Oh buddy, you aren't paying attention. everything going on in the middle east is foretold right down to every nation involved. Real Christians do read their Bibles and when Jesus said to the apostles, "What I say to you, I say to all. Watch." We're watching the dominoes falling into place.

Okay, you've never read the Bible. Why don't you just say that? I talk about physics because I studied and applied it, but I don't go out on a limb about biochemistry because my knowledge is limited. That would expose me as a fool if I made unsubstantiated claims. Get the idea? That doesn't mean I can't study biochemistry and gain a level of competency, but I don't think it's a stretch to say you have no desire whatsoever to study the faith that shook the world as Roman Empire historians described it. You can dismiss it freely, why this persistent effort to reveal yourself as an arrogant fool? Think a little more highly of yourself and shut up, move on to the memes where you can make valid points in an articulate manner. I'm still curious what you get out of posting so much of your expertise objectifying women. I thought that was politically incorrect.

Oh you of little understanding. Barabbas means "Son of shame and confusion," not son of the father. Ho ho ho that is so funny. But then it's not mandatory that you really understand Hebrew. And national Israel is symbolized by the fig tree, you know the one Jesus found no fruit on symbolically and condemned. Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD. Then Jesus (not Barabbas) said when you see the fig tree budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near, So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place." Wow. The symbolic fig tree was a nation without a homeland (just like that pesky Bible foretells) for almost 1900 years, then in 1948, in one day Israel was a nation again. Hmmm. the Bible even says that, oh well, don't try to understand what you are reading just use your imagination. And the generation that saw the fig tree budding will not pass away. Hmmmm. That time must be getting short since Israel has been a nation again for about a generation, now.
It's okay to speak from ignorance, but that doesn't replace truth.

Wow. Google. There's the answer for everything in your algorithm. Try the Hebrew definition. Look at the differences in the spellings between Simon bar Jonah and Barabbas. They are two different words, no matter what the experts say. In your own reference, one says the meaning is "prisoner". Gosh, Google giving multiple answers, who would have thought? Smorgasboard research. So how do you reconcile your Biblical expertise with 95% of what you post on imgflip being so demeaning of women?

4 ups, 3w,

So funny. When you read the Bible, do word searches in most of the common versions, there is never the phrase Son of the Father. It's always Son of God or Son of Man. Google results are turning up the words of mankind, not the words of God. So, you can reject the Bible as having any authority on the subject, or you can skate on the thin ice of what people say. Choice is yours, always, you are free to believe anything, but believing doesn't make it truth.
Interesting too, Abba is Aramaic, a term of endearment akin to "daddy" as a young child might use it.
4 ups, 3w
Oh. Please, and I'm serious, tell me which version of the Bible calls Jesus Son of the Father. I can look it up, I just need the version. NIV? NLT? NASB? ESV? I can look up any version you say and you're vindicated. Or you can look up what I've been saying and you'll know the truth and the truth shall set you free. You can say absolutely anything you want, it's a free country, but if it isn't backed by the truth, no matter what the topic, what value does it have? Deception would be one characteristic, ignorance a possibility, maybe just said with simple carelessness, but what value does it have if it is not true?

Psa 45:7 NKJV - 7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.
Psa 97:10 NKJV - 10 You who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.

If they really understood history, they'd know that all men are created equal and have the right to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are all Christian values. I'm a Christian and even I have to admit the Bible doesn't say anything about human rights. If you had read the Bible, you would know that.

Czech- I read the Bible cover to cover two to three times a year and have done so forty years. If you were a real Christian you would know every Christian is a bad person, that's why we all need a savior. Human rights? Why did God instruct not to glean the fields, to leave the grain in the corners and not to harvest every grape? So the poor could get food when they needed it. Why did God say feed the hungry, care for the poor among you, tend to the sick? Care for the orphans and the widows? Try reading more than the first page. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Being a sinner doesn't mean everyone is a bad person. It just means we do bad things sometimes.

Providing food for poor people isn't the same as guaranteeing freedom of speech and religion for everybody.
3 ups, 4w
Ever read this sentence in the Bible? "None are righteous, no not one." You don't earn your salvation, it only comes by the grace of God.
Don't fall into logical fallacies, poverty and freedoms are apples and oranges. Poor people have freedom of speech. I've been poor and spoke and worshipped as I deemed fit. I've also earned in the top 10% of earners for periods of time, my rights have been consistent, regardless of my income.
You can stay in the shallow waters of the intellectual wading pool or you can venture into the deeper waters of truth. The choice is yours, just like the rest of us have the opportunity to choose and have taken action.

The Bible condones slavery, what are you talking about?
2 ups, 3w
Czech, there are only four chapters in the Bible that describe the world God's way. Genesis 1 and 2, and Revelation 21 and 22. Everything else in the middle is the mess mankind made of it when humanity fell for 4 words from an angel named Satan who tried to make himself God- "Has God indeed said," and it tells of God's pursuit of us to restore us to His plan for humanity. You get some glimpses of heaven thrown in like the last chapters of Ezekiel
You can read descriptions of satan in Isaiah 14:12-21 Ezekiel 28:11-19. Spoiler alert, satan doesn't have horns and a tail.

Read your Bible, Christian. People sold themselves into slavery to pay debts or support their families. Slaves were to be released every 7 years, and sent away without being made destitute. Slavery is an institution of mankind, not God. Just like divorce.
3 ups, 4w,

You asking me or heart? I would recommend you learn how to accurately do critical analysis. You will recognize that God did not say, "Getcha a fistful of slaves and abuse them!" Societies of men created slavery, some were slaves to pay debts, like indentured servants who worked to pay off the expenses loaned to them to come to the 13 colonies and God laid out what was a just way to repay debts and spelled out a system of releasing slaves every 7 years, not based on 7 years of slavery but on the cycle of 7 year sabbath rests for the land. I know I wanted my time, you don't genuinely care about the truth.
