In 1973, there was a federal lawsuit against Trump for racial discrimination in renting apartments. That was the first time Trump was in the public eye. In 1975 he violated the terms of the settlement.
I had heard that him trying to repair his public Image from that is what caused him to advertise himself and turn himself into a public figure. So if it wasn't for that case, he would have been just another real estate developer that nobody would have heard of beyond those renting from him and his father.
That would answer my question growing up in New York why we always heard about this guy when he wasn't famous for anything other than being himself. He's the first celebrity that I know of that was a celebrity just for because he was a celebrity. That's why he was never popular here politically, we had spent decades not caring for him.
In 1985, five teens were arrested for a really horribly vicious rape that occurred n Central Park at night. The victim was beaten so badly, she couldn't remember any of it, and was in a coma for a while.
Trump took out a two-page ad in The New York Times and other newspapers calling for a return of the death death penalty for those boys.
The tone of the ad was taken to be racist.
Decades later, it turned out the confessions were coerced and tricked out of them, and that the actual rapist had been arrested for another rape around that time, but nobody bothered to connect him to this case. So a few years ago they were released, exonerated.
In the 1980s, in his casinos, his hiring practices were describe as being racially discriminatory, no Blacks in anything other than lower level jobs.
There was a case where some racist rich guy was coming to one of his casinos, and Trump called all the Blacks working there off the floor so that the guy wouldn't know that they were working there.
There's an assortment of comments throughout the years.
Since 2016, there was that "They're they're rapists... deal drugs" comment about Mexicans, the demonizing of them and other minorities, the shithole countries statement, the why can't we have Norwegians immigrating here instead statement... Those were in 2017. More recently was calling Somalis garbage and other such talk about people from Third World countries...
