When you say "working" - what do you mean? Working to what end? Is it bringing more money to the American government? Absolutely. Is it coming from people outside of the USA? No. I personally help collect these tariffs for my company. I assure you companies pay here and it's passed on to citizens who buy the products in the form of raised pricing.
So the money leaves the pockets of US Citizens and goes to the companies. The companies use this added revenue to pay the tariff fees for the products they bring into the country. The government gets that money. They have not been using that money to help education, healthcare, lower groceries, lower energy, lower fuel, or any other major struggle right now.
So, to me, the concept of "working" for these tariffs would be that american citizens get something for the money they are paying. So far, that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't see that happening. It's not a "claim" of mine but a denial of the claim. I don't see any of that happening. I could be wrong about that. I'm welcome to sources that show how this tariff money is ACTUALLY helping any CITIZENS but so far it looks like it's just going to very wealthy companies to me. Again, I could be wrong about that so you're welcome to show me sources of tariff money going to citizen causes and I am happy to read.
So I've given you what "working" means to me. When we talk about the idea that "the tariffs are working," what does that even mean to you?
