This claim is false. Federal law blocks undocumented immigrants from ACA subsidies, Medicare, and regular Medicaid; only emergency care is federally reimbursable, and that spending has been under 1% of Medicaid. The 2018–19 shutdown happened because Trump demanded wall money and said he’d be “proud” to shut it down. Meanwhile, his administration revived federal use of private prisons and pushed ICE detention to record levels, where taxpayers cover housing, meals, and medical care. Facts over slogans.
Also, shutdowns are ultimately a failure of the budget process. Congress and the President must both enact appropriations; when they don’t, agencies halt non-essential functions. That’s a SYSTEMIC failure, even when one side’s demand is the proximate trigger.
But by all means keep pretending that yelling partisan talking points, blaming “the other side,” and calling everyone who disagrees a traitor is the master plan to fixing America. Who needs facts or dialogue when outrage and team loyalty solve everything, right?
