Incorrect. What we are seeing now is mercantilism and right-coded nanny statism. Free markets optimize for the personal wealth of the individual, mercantilism optimizes for the wealth of the state. Free markets don't care where you buy widgets from, mercantilism says you have to buy from your own country even if your government makes manufacturing cost-prohibitive. Tariffs are a tool of the mercantilist, not the average free market enjoyer.
Meanwhile, the one big allegedly beautiful bill blows out the spending, massively increases the national debt, and doesn't cut a penny from Social Security or Medicaid. Why can't we go back to pre-pandemic spending levels? The tax cuts are not offset by cuts, but by more borrowing. Meanwhile, the Republican Party messaging is primarily the same kind of faux sympathy for white men as the Democrat Party shows for every other minority. This is right-coded nanny statism.
