The stuff we buy comes form other countries or parts of those things do. So even if we by domestic you'll still be paying more.

However domestic producers would also raise prices because they have easy excuse to do so

They can’t raise them above the tariffs or they will make the Chinese bads (can’t call the “goods” because they’re so shoddy) to be cheaper again and defeat the purpose. Prices go up when demand goes up anyway, even if we all decided to buy domestic without a tariff. Once supply catches up to demand the prices will adjust accordingly. Or the trade war could end by both parties agreeing to real free trade rather than the current “free” trade where we get charged tariffs for our goods and can’t charge others for theirs. Already companies based overseas are investing in factories here to avoid tariffs: factories that will give Americans jobs that pay better.

Actually that is the (historical) tendency, for domestic companies to raise prices to match foreign goods with tariffs added. Just go to the store, do you really think that milk and apples still cost so much because they're stuck in some cargo ship in the middle of the Pacific 5 years later? Corporations are in the business of making money, not giving people bargains while they still go by Toyotas because they're still better quality than the gloriously low quality products we make.

Not to mention that he didn't just products made here, whatever few there are actually made here still have parts made abroad. And switching to making them here isn't exactly an overnight process.

Supply and demand. People will cut dairy out of their diets and prices will drop and eventuality equalize somewhere between what people are willing to pay and what companies want to make of them.

Nah I don't think people are just dropping milk or cheese like that.

That's not gonna happen especially on things like food that we need to survive.

My house already has. We haven't had milk for weeks.

Why Milk isn't even that terrible in pricing compared to what eggs were
1 up, 5mo
The use of dairy as an example is one of the dumbest I’ve ever heard. The cost of groceries is largely dependent on the price of diesel fuel for use in farm machinery and truckers. As for milk prices they will reduce the prices when you come toward the sell-by date or the stores have to throw them out. If people don’t buy it they reduce it because demand goes lower.

Think of your phones and computers and trucks and cars. The stuff that says "made in China" is a US import meaning WEEEEEE pay the tariff if you buy those goods.

Is there any reason we can’t develop such things as are imported from China domestically?

That's a question for your president who instead of just doing exactly that starts trade wars

These trade wars you look down upon are causing foreign companies where such products are produced to set up factories in America— thus avoiding tariffs and bringing about domestic production. (Checkmate).

Ok but why don't we just build the factories and not the trade war. If it's about money Trump Increased the national debt by 25 percent and made the stock market lose 3 Trillion dollars

(Checkmate and took your Queen"

There are at least reasons. First, much technology is proprietary to companies. You have to get companies that originated in other countries to build them here, and they need an incentive to build here. Tariffs are such an incentive. Second, all of the countries that are having tariffs levied against their products have been levying tariffs against us for years. What would be good is if they stopped imposing them on our products, and then we stop imposing them on theirs. That would make a much better outcome, would it not?

Btw, you fell for my trap with the queen sacrifice.

Yes I understand that it would be good to make the stuff here or grow stuff here or have companies here but that's not how it works so people won't share there secrets.

Also we still pay the tariffs on the goods we bring in that's all I'm emphasizing he put tariffs on Vietnam so that means all Coffee we import will have what a 69 percent tariff I'm not exactly sure how much was on nam
0 ups, 5mo
So for coffee we just go to another source. Brazil makes far better coffee than Vietnam anyway

Excactly.
They don't seem to understand that.
