We need to raise the minimum wage because nobody working 40 hours a week should live in poverty. Maybe if we didn't give some of their money to people who work 0 hours a week, then they wouldn't be in poverty. | image tagged in ocasio-cortez cardboard, offended william shatner | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

I appreciate the heads-up. Been flagged before for it despite the word literally being a searchable term for multiple pages worth of meme templates.

I refuse to comply.

Also doesn't help that even if such a job does pay good there's the matter of getting screwed over by the tax system which happened this cycle because of Biden.

that may happen for middle income earners, but not for minimum wage workers. People should not strive to make minimum wage, it should be your starting pay as a teenager or your first part-time job at a fast food or retail store. If anything, earning minimum wage should be incentive to gain skills and experience in a job field or start your own business so you can earn much more.

If you have basic human decency, you would pay workers a living wage

If everyone got paid a living wage - the costs of goods would skyrocket so they can get paid. Which would just make it more unlivable for people earning middle class wages instead of minimum.

Every time people at the bottom get a minimum wage increase - EVERY TIME, not most or once in awhile - it's every time... The industries who pay minimum wages raise their prices to offset the wages costs.

It makes the goods and services minimum wage people use regularly cost more money. But not just minimum wage earners use those services. Middle class does too - so do some of the super wealthy. Those people don't get an off set pay raise to the minimum wage going up. So what they have is items costing more money - but they have the same amount of income. So it makes it harder for them to afford their goods and services.

The only people it doesn't impact are the people at the top earners levels - because money is immaterial to them. The problem with the whole thing is that minimum wage jobs are for the least skilled people. I've watched special education people complete the jobs of minimum wage fast food workers. People of the lowest skill sets don't all have the needed thinking skill sets to see that their demand for higher wages will just bring down themselves and others in a financial backlash of increased prices of necessities like food and beverages.

In the long run - they have more money and less spending power. Then middle class also has less spending power and the same money. All it does is raise the bar for what's financially poor or not.

Also you do have good points, but we wouldn’t have that problem if billionaires paid their taxes
0 ups, 7h
Who do you think pays the most amount of taxes to the government .... It's Corporations & Billionaires. Do they find more loopholes than regular folks? Sure - but they still end up at a higher percentage than the average worker does.

a "living" wage is a different topic than the federal minimum wage. Individual states can have higher minimum wages based on their state labor laws, but not any lower than the federal minimum wage. The idea of "living" wage is very subjective and different for different people. Any worker with more skills and experience will qualify for higher wages, so the minimum ONLY applies to workers who have no skills and no experience, hence the minimum.

Minimum wage laws were not meant to give a living wage. They were designed to protect union jobs from competition with lower-skilled workers.

So no disability checks is what's you're saying?

More like “work requirements for welfare.”

I do believe we should have some form of contribution for welfare benefits. Like for a month of benefits - you contribute 80 hours of community service. The community is helping you - give something back.

There's disability & then there's taking advantage of a system disability. I'm fine with the actual disabled. I'm not fine with the mass amounts of fraud.

My buddy Brian is crippled from the waist down & makes more a year than I do. He didn't just roll over & say I'm disabled. He hustles & makes bank doing his thing.

Then I've also watched an entire factory workshop operate with disabled physically & mentally workers & they make amazing crafts.

But then there are also legitimate cases of people who are disabled and cannot work. People with personality disorders or social disorders - people with PTSD - quadriplegic people... People who are too fat to work even can get that nod.

Disability benefits should only be given for legit disabilities. But for example, obesity -- you should get benefits that include mandatory diet & exercise regiments to bring you back to a healthy livable weight, where you can contribute to society.

Injury disability...let's get these people funded to get appropriate surgeries to fix their conditions when possible. Majorly threw your back or neck muscles out? Surgeons can work wonders. Let's patch you up & get you back to contributing to society.
