Lincoln suspended habeas corpus, imposed martial law when he saw fit, and shut down some 300 newspapers who criticized him and the war effort.

He was a virulent racist who allowed the Border States to maintain slavery, and exempted them and any Confederate territory captured by the Union from the Emancipation Proclamation. The only reason why he supported freeing the slaves after the war was in order to break the economic backbone of the South in order to cripple it and keep it dependent on the North, which it is still very much so to this very day.

Not saying that Lincoln would support Trump and what Trump & Co have been doing - I doubt he would - but he wasn't exactly entirely unlike him. The Republican Party back then was pro-big centralized government, as well as very pro-business, so in that regard, the Party of Lincoln then is very much the Party of Lincoln now.

The only difference is that by getting shot, he got elevated to sainthood, and a little whitewashing turned him into the grand White Messiah for the Black slaves. Lincoln the Redeemer, who saved the slaves and America in the process.
