Emotions are actually more proto-thought, or primitive thought, closer to impulses, as they emerge out of the hypothalamus, having evolved long before the brain developed the capacity for more complex reasoning and then logic that would later be applied to that. It's why emotions tend to be rather illogical and not particularly well thought out, as well as uncontrollable. By logic and reason.
Unless someone's a sociopath, in which case they are emulating emotions, sans feeling, just empty gestures calculated to simulate the emotional responses of normal people.
Weird, I was just reminiscing about this about 20 minutes ago, that my parents used to say that emotions are something that 'low class' people did. Obviously they were a tad bit on the remote side.
