I live in Taxifornia, and all I have to say is... yep.

Anecdote: I just returned from a vacation, flying in to SFO. While waiting for our ride to show up, the little lady and I were treated to a fine example of how San Francisco greets / treats tourists. They have little parking enforcement scooters zipping around the passenger pickup zone at SFO and traffic officers on foot. They're blowing whistles and setting off sirens for any car that is not actively engaged in picking someone up. Hell, it's not the fault of the people who are there to pick someone up that the airport is a shitty design, but who pays for it? Arriving passengers, many of whom are tourists. I just thought about the tourist that they should get used to it, because it doesn't get any better once you leave the airport.

California is building a high-speed rail line but unlike Florida's Brightline, it unfortunately is not anywhere near completion of its construction and is costing billions in taxes. If it is does get complete, I imagine it might be trashed by looters and rioters like anything else in California: imgflip.com/i/7ksa3e

Impressive.
A brand new commuter train that goes from Miami to Fart Lauderdale 7am till 8pm Mon - Thur and till 11 on Fridays! And it's still sparkly and shiny unlike Cali's older cargo rails that get raided because Amazon would rather collect the insurance than protect their packages to customers!

It's run by a private company. Yeah, from the IRT to Conrail to Amtrak, lemme know how that pans out in the long term, not that they haven't been getting subsidies up the wahoo from Florida which gets that funding from the Federal Gov't.

So all this time the only rail service in the state that still listens to Free Bird like it was new had been the Monorail in Disney?

I will have you know that Brightline isn't commuter line, it is in fact intercity high-speed rail, the stations are fully modernized and look a lot more like airports and even have luxury lounges. They are also almost finished their extension to Orlando which will be open this summer and after that, they will extend to Tampa and they are dven planning a line called Brightline West from Las Vegas to LA. And really? You are blaming Amazon for the raided packages and not the thieves and looters that are committing the crime? I will have you know that Brightline is NOT "getting subsidies up the wahoo from Florida" Ron DeSantis refused to give any government funding to the company, Brightline did get a one off grant from the federal government as an extra little boost of investment capital but they solely rely on their own profits for funding and they are proving a very profitable business model. If you wanna talk about "getting subsidies up the wahoo" then let's talk about California's high-speed rail project, that line has been in it's planning stage for over 10 years, isn't even halfway through its construction stage, has already cost billions in taxes and is still begging for $35 billion more in federal funding. This is all because this rail line is being built entirely by the very inefficiently run government of California.

tl;dr

I stop reading when you start pretending I said things I didn't.

Brightline is a one stop new train built by a company subsdized by the North/Blue States. Of course it's shiny and new. Because math.

Goodness, it shuts down a 8:05pm, and doesn't even run on the weekends.

Some say Florida's public transportation is a joke, but the fact is, it isn't'. Literally. Isn't.
I was informed of this decades ago when I considered moving there, knowing some that did. Like everyone else I've know that moved there, they came back in under 2 years.

"trashed by looters and rioters like anything else in California"

You've clearly never been to California

Now you are gaslighting, denying that looters obviously trashed a rail yard in California and that state has laws loosened by 'criminal justice reform' policies that are very lenient on theives and allow them to get away with robbery.

California's high speed rail line is being entirely planned, built and operated by the government and is still nowhere near completion and is the government is still asking for billions more in federal funding. Florida's high speed rail line is entirely owned, funded, planned and operated by a private company (with a one off federal grant as boost of investment capital) and the construction of Florida's Brightline is going very well, they are almost done their Orlando extension and proving to be a very profitable business model. Proving yet another thing Florida does better than California and another thing the private sector does better than the government.

Sorry my bad, of course there's Hollywood but those smug Hollywood elites and u haul are the only successful industries in Hollywood, many tech industries and small businesses are moving to lower tax states like Texas and creating a thriving economy for Texas, Florida, etc. It looks like those high taxes and poorly run government is killing the very wealth and economy that California boasts.

It's 2023. And STILL, to this day, those states are STILL dependent on outside business to move in because they can't develop their own STILL?

I don't mind people with California values moving to Texas and Florida :)

Many migrants from California have actually registered as Republican in droves when they moved to Florida so it seems they don't want to be governed by the likes of Gavin Newsom anymore much to your despair.

You're barking up the wrong tree, Octavia. This state makes most of its money by stealing it from its own citizens. The personal income tax (PIT) is by far the largest source of General Fund revenue here in Taxifornia, accounting for over one-half of all General Fund revenues*. The sales and use tax (SUT) and the corporation tax (CT) are also significant sources of revenue for the state**. Other sources of revenue to the General Fund include the insurance premium tax; unclaimed property; royalties from state lands; tribal gaming revenue; and other various taxes, fees, penalties and legal settlements***. (yes, I looked it up!)

Too bad that fancy rail line in Florida will be underwater by mid-century due to climate change.
