One would have thought that identity politics would have run its course decades ago but one would be wrong. | In an effort to call attention to himself, actor, John Leguizamo, announced he will be boycotting "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" because Mario and Luigi are not voiced by Latinos. No word if Lequizamo will also boycott the last two "Hamlet" movies because neither Denzel Washington or Mel Gibson are Danish. Or if he will boycott "The Little Mermaid" because Halle Bailey is also not Danish nor a mermaid. Or boycott "Highlander" because a Frenchman, Christopher Lambert, played a Scot, while a Scot, Sean Connery, played a Spaniard. Or boycott "Mulan" because Eddie Murphy voiced a Chinese dragon, Eddie Murphy is not Chinese nor a dragon. Or boycott "Kung Fu Panda" because Jack Black voiced a Chinese Panda. Jack Black is also not Chinese nor a panda. | image tagged in identity politics, why cant libs see this as wrong, normal people do not care about stuff like this | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

Modern "Latino" inclusive? Not so much.

The Mario creator was friends with an Italian plumber and that's where he got the idea.

Please stop confronting leftist virtue-signalers with facts; because if they could read then those facts would upset them.

But. . .Mario wasn't played by an Italian in the live action movie that John did. . .what. . .did he think there won't be people who remember?

Also the new movie dodged the 'woke bullet'. Apparently Illumination wanted the focus to be on Princess Peach. Nintento stepped in and put a hard stop to that idea. It's that kind of thinking that makes me think that while a Metroid of Legend of Zelda movie would be great with today's special affects. . .it's Hollyfrickin'wood. . .

I understand what you are trying to say but the reason why Mexico, Central and South America is called Latin America is because of the languages, Spanish and Portuguese (in Brazil). The languages are Latin based. If Brazil had been settled by Spain, instead of Portugal then Latin America would most likely be called Hispanic America

What that means is Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and Romanian are all Latin based languages. People from those countries are all Latinos.

There is a ton of Latin in the English language. So much so, that I wonder why we aren't included. Therefore, with so much Latin in English then wouldn't that make Chris Pratt a Latino?

The problem with John Leguizamo is he was in the first Mario Bros movie he wanted to be in the new movie and because he wasn't he just wanted attention. Leguizamo never complained about Bob Hoskins, and Englishman, playing Mario in the first movie.

Yeah that's why technically Quebec is Latin America (I don't necessarily think that, but I've heard it said, since they speak French). I just tend to use the more conventional definition that encompasses Central and South America.

Yeah he's just playing the race card to be a victim. I just am pointing out his silliness.

I never thought about Quebec being part of Latin America but that is true. You're right about Leguizamo. He wants to be a victim because that is what liberals strive to be as their highest virtue.

It's the never-ending struggle for "who's the biggest victim?"

The Kenneth Branagh 'Hamlet' was more recent than the Mel Gibson version, and I don't see a 'Hamlet' anywhere in Denzel Washington's credits. He did, however, do a 'Macbeth' and Branagh's 'Much Ado About Nothing', which is a good description of this topic.

MiniAppleIs! Oh dred!
As a Thespian, one ought know not to utter "The Bard's Play!" Even in writing!

I would have responded sooner but ImgFlip felt it would be in their best interest if I didn't make any comments for 2 days. Anyway. My mistake. You are right. Washington was in MacBeth. I didn't know he was in Much Ado about Nothing, I just knew about MacBeth.

However, the point in my meme is the same. Denzel Washington is not Scottish.
