Snowball Earth, in which the planet was supposedly totally frozen over (though doubtful is was total) is said to have occured a billion years ago, and there may have been two.
The Permian Extinction 250 millions years ago, witnessed massive temperature rise. The continents were all part of the super continent Pangea, and the vast interior was hot desert.
Not sure how the automobile industry was doing during the Minoan, Roman, and Medievel Warming Periods, but maybe we can learn from their methods of remedying warmth that exceeded ours today. The Little Ice Age which ended the MWP is rather enticing, as was the Ice Age of the 1970s and the 70s Redo dip that happened in the 2000s after 1999 was the beginning of the end of life as we know it on Planet Earth.
