Why do Democrats need nearly 90,000 armed tax collectors? Do discrepancies on your 1040EZ require a raid of your home by guys with machine guns? And once the first American dies at the hands of an overzealous IRS asshat during a "raid" what will you say? When the first black man, or hispanic woman, or gender confused person is shot during an IRS raid, will you demand they are defunded too? This is a TAX collection agency, not a LAW enforcement agency. How in the hell do democrats say banning AR15s is a requirement for citizens, but ok for government accountants?

But in the Appalachian backwoods the revenuers frequently disappeared.

Perhaps the new IRS agents are going to go after drug dealers and marijuana dispensaries. as well as any business handling significant amounts of cash. They will probably also go after people who have businesses taking Venmo and Zelle payments.

Not likely. The legal way to do it would be for them to coordinate with the local sheriff who would be the one to do the arrests and the ones that are armed. They would go to a judge and get a warrant with the persons name on it and the things that were used to get the warrant and then it would be handed to the local sheriff. The sheriff would go out and plan and execute the arrest.

Execute and serve search warrants and arrest warrants, and serve subpoenas and summonses issued under authority of the United States
Make arrests without warrant for any offense against the United States relating to
The Internal Revenue laws committed in their presence, or
For any felony cognizable under such laws if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing any such felony
Make seizures of property subject to forfeiture under the Internal Revenue laws

Revenuers aren't new. Matthew was a tax-collector before meeting Jesus Christ. Then as now, tax-collectors are one of the most hated of jobs according to the general public. Wouldn't be surprised if eleven set of eyes glanced toward Matthew when Jesus mentioned a traitor among them.

For a long time, the IRS has had Special Agents who have law-enforcement authority to arrest people. It has been little used, instead with the DOJ/FBI making arrests for felony tax evasion.

This I don't get. DOJ/FBI are meant to be official parts of the the Judicial Branch of Government. IRS is really not about that. But since they do have the right to investigate crime and arrest shouldn't they be bound to the same constitutional standards that other law enforcement from Deputy Fife to FBI are supposed to be bound to?

The IRS is part of the treasury department. They have sole authority to enforce the tax code. One would think there would be constitutional restraints. It’s probably the fine print in all your banking agreements that allows data to be shared with IRS, thereby allowing analysis to generate probable cause.

They don't hate self defence for citizens. When did they even say that? It's not as black - and - white as "We don't like everyone having guns because children are dying from certain people who have lost their minds." Just because they're not as blinded by conspiracies as some Republicans are (of course, there are some bad Democrats) doesn't mean that they hate 'self defence'. I mean, if guns weren't so readily available, then you wouldn't need a gun to defend yourself, would you?
