"The government subsidizes wind and solar much more than the oil industry"
how much of that is true when compared to the last 7 decades? a wikileaks report revealed that airlines receive hundreds of billions in subsidies (and airplanes, of course, are powered by fossil fuels). yikes.
"If I remember correctly, only about 45 people died from it. The tsunami in Japan killed more people than the nuclear power plant. I think 1 person died from the nuclear power plant"
both of those disasters also created entire ghost towns. i've frequently looked at pictures of the ukrainian city of prip'yat, the nearest settlement to chernobyl. it's overgrown with foliage.
"all of the disasters that people point to are A) from at least 40 years or more ago, with the exception of Japan and B) were not even close to as deadly as the fearmongers will have you believe."
i should make it clear that i do support nuclear power. despite those incidents happening decades ago, the majority of americans now believe nuclear waste is neon green and will give fish 3 eyes because of the simpsons. the fearmongering will never disappear. that's also why everyone hates monorails now.
however it's not just the fearmongering that has prevented their spread; it's the logistics. a single nuclear plant takes around $6 billion to build. compared to a solar field, which usually costs 1 million. even without the fearmongering and incidents and mr burns, most residents would be opposed to a nuclear plant being built near them. near interstate 40 outside of asheville, there is a solar field which is only noticeable from looking out of the car window. however, if a power plant were there instead, residents would likely be complaining and protesting simply due to the eyesore they'd perceive steam funnels to be, and the amount of noisy incoming semi-trailers and freight trains consistently serving the plant.
"What scares me is because of all of the medications people take these days, traces of those medicines have all made it into our drinking water."
my knowledge of that aspect of pollution is limited. however, i will say that we can't go on without medication.
"Well... I'm falling asleep. I gotta go to bed now, I have to work tomorrow. Good night"
eyyy good night. i gotta rest too.
