That is why absolutely no one in the House voted for AOC's green new deal. The death of every great leftist idea can easily be killed when you ask the simple question of "how are we going to pay for all of this?"

If the young voters realized they would be the ones footing the bill, through taxes and/or inflation, the Dems would be out of office

If young voters actually paid for "anything", they would be out of office.
Why so many switch if they ever make it to the business end of a mortgage, or car payment, or even their own cell phone plan..

I think about how stupid I was when I was young and I didn't understand taxes, government debt or anything about politics. Fortunately my parents were Republicans. If they had been Democrats I might still be just as stupid as I was when I was young.

But you said they were Democrats till the Dixiecrats failed in the 1950s?

well i'm glad we agree on nuclear. however, 20 to 30 years is still a generation's worth of free electricity from solar & wind power. most imgflip users will be dead by the time the solar field near me needs replacements. compare that to the infinite number of internal combustion engine cars i see in scrap yards every time i take a train through the industrial districts of any city.

What is free about it? Wind turbines have to be maintained all the time. Solar panels may last 30 years but the batteries don't and they aren't cheap and they are environmentally friend at all. Solar is about double the annual cost to operate as nuclear. Wind is even more costly.

I'm not worried about auto graveyards. The plastic on cars might be here for a while but everything else will eventually break down.

Yeah, 30 years would be the rest of my life. That would put me in my mid 90's.

"Wind turbines have to be maintained all the time. Solar panels may last 30 years but the batteries don't and they aren't cheap and they are environmentally friend at all"

batteries, sure. however, compared to the costs of mining fossil fuels for energy, it's much easier to make a profit off of a solar field while government subsidies are needed for fossil fuel collection. that's why we see them pop up everywhere.

"Solar is about double the annual cost to operate as nuclear. Wind is even more costly."

however they are easier to set up and less people object to being near them compared to nuclear plants. i went to the northeast just last week and there were wind turbines near my hotel and solar panels right near railroads and roads. while i think nuclear power is more effective, simply building a plant is going to have more obstacles than a solar field, even without how nimbys perceive nuclear plants after chernobyl.

"I'm not worried about auto graveyards. The plastic on cars might be here for a while but everything else will eventually break down"

cars are made from various metals that seep into rivers such as aluminum, nickel, and lead. vehicle batteries (which are present in all cars, not just evs) can also leak acid.

junkyards also ruin the quality of life in an area. what could've been housing is now room for car shells that do nothing, and they're everywhere.

"Yeah, 30 years would be the rest of my life. That would put me in my mid 90's."

enough for me to be in my 50s.

The government subsidizes wind and solar much more than the oil industry.

"however they are easier to set up and less people object to being near them compared to nuclear plants."

This is because the left has done a very good job of scaring people to death about them. Chernobyl was the worst nuclear disaster ever. If I remember correctly, only about 45 people died from it. The tsunami in Japan killed more people than the nuclear power plant. I think 1 person died from the nuclear power plant.

In addition, all of the disasters that people point to are A) from at least 40 years or more ago, with the exception of Japan and B) were not even close to as deadly as the fearmongers will have you believe.

It is that fear that stopped all new nuclear energy plants from being built back in the 70's. There are a lot of countries where most of their electricity comes from nuclear but we never hear anything about them. And if nuclear is so bad then why did Obama just hand over everything Iran could have possibly dreamed of to build a nuclear power plant (or actually a nuclear bomb).

Car batteries are probably the worst thing about auto graveyards but lithium ion batteries are the worst.

"junkyards also ruin the quality of life in an area"

In addition to what you said about some of the metals getting into our water supply, they also stink real bad.

What scares me is because of all of the medications people take these days, traces of those medicines have all made it into our drinking water.

Well... I'm falling asleep. I gotta go to bed now, I have to work tomorrow. Good night.

"The government subsidizes wind and solar much more than the oil industry"

how much of that is true when compared to the last 7 decades? a wikileaks report revealed that airlines receive hundreds of billions in subsidies (and airplanes, of course, are powered by fossil fuels). yikes.

"If I remember correctly, only about 45 people died from it. The tsunami in Japan killed more people than the nuclear power plant. I think 1 person died from the nuclear power plant"

both of those disasters also created entire ghost towns. i've frequently looked at pictures of the ukrainian city of prip'yat, the nearest settlement to chernobyl. it's overgrown with foliage.

"all of the disasters that people point to are A) from at least 40 years or more ago, with the exception of Japan and B) were not even close to as deadly as the fearmongers will have you believe."

i should make it clear that i do support nuclear power. despite those incidents happening decades ago, the majority of americans now believe nuclear waste is neon green and will give fish 3 eyes because of the simpsons. the fearmongering will never disappear. that's also why everyone hates monorails now.

however it's not just the fearmongering that has prevented their spread; it's the logistics. a single nuclear plant takes around $6 billion to build. compared to a solar field, which usually costs 1 million. even without the fearmongering and incidents and mr burns, most residents would be opposed to a nuclear plant being built near them. near interstate 40 outside of asheville, there is a solar field which is only noticeable from looking out of the car window. however, if a power plant were there instead, residents would likely be complaining and protesting simply due to the eyesore they'd perceive steam funnels to be, and the amount of noisy incoming semi-trailers and freight trains consistently serving the plant.

"What scares me is because of all of the medications people take these days, traces of those medicines have all made it into our drinking water."

my knowledge of that aspect of pollution is limited. however, i will say that we can't go on without medication.

"Well... I'm falling asleep. I gotta go to bed now, I have to work tomorrow. Good night"

eyyy good night. i gotta rest too.

i should probably make it clear for a myriad of reasons that i don't support obama. however, i will say that suspecting a middle eastern country of having wmds was what got us into the pointless overseas wars such as afghanistan.

well it's a lot cheaper to get personal solar panels for your house and earn payment cuts from the electric company than to depend entirely on that company.
0 ups, 3y,

Those "payment cuts" are paid for by everyone that pays their electric bill.

Nothing is free. If liberals could just learn this one, basic, simple fact, the world would instantly become a better place.

lmfao i'd love to see your logic play out if the hypothetical situation of everyone served by a specific company bought solar panels. it'd ultimately be a huge loss for the company. that's why duke energy is lobbying against energy bill cuts for solar power users

Why are liberals so damn simple? Given how few people actually have solar panels, your suggestion is a moot point.

Or maybe the money just magically appears out of thin air?

btw- It costs more to manufacture and dispose of these "green" devices than the savings they represent, AND the production of them releases more carbon in the air than they save.

But by all means, continue to not think for yourself, and do as your TV tells you.

eyyy never said electric cars or tesla were solution. you can literally buy a bicycle and be infinitely more environmentally conscious than condescending futurist tesla drivers. electric cars take way more energy than a single house can, and if we move away from cars in general, we use less energy

It is the ignorant who just buy what the State is selling that causes the decline of society as a whole. The information is readily available, and probably with pictures for the more simple of mind.
