Conservative politicians and commentators are criticizing the Biden administration for creating a new bureau to fight the spread of disinformation online. Several of these critics have compared it unfavorably to the Ministry of Truth, a fictional department in George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984.

On Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas testified during a budget hearing of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security that a Disinformation Governance Board had recently been created to fight the spread of disinformation on the internet. During a Thursday press briefing, White House press secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged the board's existence and noted that President Joe Biden supported it.

President Biden came under fire Thursday for the creation of a “dystopian” disinformation bureau created under his Homeland Security department, which critics are blasting as just a way for the government to police free speech online.

Conservatives slammed the Department of Homeland Security’s Orwellian new “Disinformation Governance Board” – with some suggesting the timing is convenient given Elon Musk vowed to make Twitter a free speech haven after his $44 billion takeover of the social media platform notorious for selectively censoring right-leaning points of view.

And yet if you say anything about black on black crime, you are a racist.

Well, I am genuinely sorry if all your take away from someone for mentioning black on black crime was just that you were a racist.

But perhaps you or anyone here can explain why black on black crime is relevant given it’s just as significant as white on white crime. Yet, blacks are statistically more likely to be incarcerated despite these two similar criminal stats against people of the same race.

Okay, so why would someone use black on black crime to justify or dismiss police brutality?

I never have and I don't believe there is any justification for police brutality.

Using force to subdue a subject is necessary at times, but usually portrayed as police brutality by criminals and "journalists".

It is kind of like everyone in prison claims innocence.

Then you’ve wasted your time. But, I appreciate your need to be apart of the conversation.

See, the conversation is about the relevance of bringing up black on black crime and the claim that people who do are racist.

I’m still waiting on an explanation for why people use black on black crime to justify police brutality. Maybe there is a legitimate reason for it as I would hate to assume there was a racist purpose.

Still, I’m glad you’re just as confused by the irrelevance of stating the statistics of black on black crime as I am.

An even better question is what does Mayorkas statements of white supremacist terrorism posing the most prominent threat to the US, have to do with a hearing that’s main purpose was the discussion of dissolving title 42?

Obviously one can only make assumptions and it was clear at this panel a range of discussions were made but it all made pretty good political theatre, didn’t it?

It seems to me that we’re not on staying on the rigorous and narrow view of the topics in discussion. Otherwise that would be quite a limit on our freedom of speech to challenge the status quo.
