you're right, it is a stupid thing to care about. And a surprising number of times, it's targeted directly at minorities. It is often about race- specifically, maintaining control over them.

They tell them how to dress. They tell them how to talk. They tell them how to wear their pants. They tell them how to style their hair.

More people need to follow Hanlon's Razor. "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
