Actually, kinda not how it works. Think about the Nixon administration - Agnew resigned, Nixon made Ford VP, Nixon resigned, Ford became POTUS. They didn't need to make the Speaker the VP at that point.

The only reason that Speaker is third in line is if both POTUS & VP die or resign at the same time or very close together before a new VP can be appointed.

Of Kamala is impeached and then Biden goes before he can name a successor who is approved by the House, then thee we Speaker is Pres.
