BALTIMORE — A new study by researchers at Johns Hopkins University reveals COVID lockdowns prevented only a small number of deaths caused by the virus.

The authors reviewed 24 separate studies and broke them into three groups: Lockdown Stringency Index Studies, Shelter-In-Place Order Studies, and Specific Non-Pharmaceutical Intervention Studies.

An analysis of each found "that lockdowns have had little to no effect on COVID-19 mortality."

The numbers suggest lockdowns in Europe and the United States reduced the COVID-19 mortality rate by only an average of 0.2%.

3 economists (2 of which weren't even from Johns Hopkins) wrote a non-peer reviewed self-described working paper (different than a "study") based on sources (~1/3 of which were also working papers written by other economists), and made conclusions which would make people think future efforts which could hurt the economy wouldn't be worth it........

There is still literally no way to spread covid from me to you if I'm locked down in my house and you're in yours. Pretty sure the science is more or less settled on that.

The "masks don't work" argument is similar to the "vaccines don't work" argument.. not being 100% effective still does not mean 0 % effective. Although to be fair it depends what you use. Those screen / joke ones the right uses to pay lip service to mask mandates will clearly do jack sh*t. The cloth ones are maybe slightly better than nothing idk. I wear N95s indoors(in public) and around my neighbors (theyre high risk& unvaccinated)....... I'd be curious what science says I was wrong.

The odds that you wear an N95 properly without periodically or routinely touching it or adjusting it for any length of time are near zero. You put it on your face as a signal. We would have been masked up long ago had they been effective for daily use and extended periods. Even if you were the perfect mask wearer the majority of people would not be, especially children. The exterior of your N95 is a collection and concetration point for whatever you think you are screening out. Touch it and all bets are off because you just put your hand on a concentrated virus colony if the virus is “in the air.”

I have seen people get covid and it was basically a cold that went away in a few days but i've also had direct family and friends become hospitalized and die from covid... Last year I found out someone in my family now has seizures and they believe it's from brain swelling from covid. You might think thats fake news or some kind of medical coincidence but I don't. I wouldn't want to see my literal and figurative neighbors in the hospital and think that it could've been because something I did or did not do and wearing a mask in public indoors is such a small thing in my opinion... As far as everyone else's actions, idk.. I can't make them wear N95s or wear them correctly or not touch them and I'm not about to Karen up on people about it. I just try to do what I can do (reasonably).

It has nothing to do with if the virus is fake or real. It has to do with the freedom to make personal choices. Arresting people at the beach for not wearing a mask is ludicrous. People walking by themselves outside being forced to wear a mask for compliances sake is also ludicrous. If you are at risk

Wow did someone actually get arrested for not wearing one at the beach? That's kinda messed up if true. What I have actually seen is people dodging a security guard indoors and telling them ya I'll buy masks as I shop and security letting them go.

As far as kids...kids these days are coddled and given everything... I won't shed any tears over them having to wearing a mask. Case numbers are tanking anyway and this past monster wave didn't kill nearly as many as people compared to the previous one. I don't think anywhere that has still has mask mandates will keep having them for much longer. Maybe next winter some places will again idk.

You can believe the virus is real and still not be convinced you have to give up your business and life over others fears. If we had had open discussion and debate maybe we would have focused on those most at risk and asking them to work from home or providing a way for them to pay bills. Instead of sending them to the very place where the most vulnerable lived. The vast majority of the population was not at heightened risk and could have gone on with a more normal routine with little danger of death. Masking children for extended periods is akin to child abuse. If they can’t be in school without masks then close the schools. I’m for dismantling the public school system anyway.

Taking advantage of the lockdowns to have fun at the beach by yourself and then f*cking with the police is a little different than simply "arresting someone for not wearing a mask".

I would also point out that incident April 2020 was pretty early in the pandemic... I mean it was barely here. I don't think we had much of a grasp on what to expect with covid at that time. The level of fear was pretty high and there was a concern about hospitals getting slammed with too many people (hence the ship and the nursing home f*ck up)

The fact is he was a solitary man in the ocean on a paddle board. He was no risk to anyone beginning, middle, or end.
