"Like the conservatives who think the Earth is 6000 years old, and existed before the sun?"
I am certain of this- your cosmology is based on a vague understanding that scientists have proven a naturalistic origin to the universe. This is, of course, absurd.
As an atheist, I once told a Christian who was witnessing to me that the only reason he did not believe in evolution was because he hadn't really studied it. Now, with total assurance, I tell people that the only reason they believe in evolution is because they haven't really studied it. I am surprised at how many atheists/liberals want to run and hide from where this debate must start, that being the origin of life. Scientists are no different, because with what we already know, it is impossible for life to arise from non-life. This isn't some theory- this is based on everything we know.
When Darwin constructed his theory, he could be forgiven for getting it so wrong as we simply did not have the advancements needed to understand just how complex life is. No one has such an excuse today. The sheer complexity of a single cell is mind boggling, and the obvious programmed information found within DNA is impossible to overlook.
So why do learned scientists overlook this, and continue to believe in the theory of evolution? Every last single one of them is still a fallen human being, most with the same anti-God bias you have, so they stick with the sources that tell them it's all been figured out, even though their own discipline cannot support the theory. It truly is shocking when you compare this with the actual evidence. Evolution is a myth . . .
2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
