Many confederates during the civil war were not fighting for slavery, they were fighting to obtain their own government and to keep their lands. Slavery is wrong, but that’s probably the least popular reason to fight during the war. The few people that still do fly the confederate flag fly it to show they are a conservative. It’s just a statement.

They felt the federal government was getting way too nosy with issues that are supposed to be left to a state. The 10th Amendment reads, "Any power(federal government level) not in the Constitution goes to the States.

No, it was more like tyrannical oppression from an industrialized nation on an agricultural group of states it wanted to bleed more money from.

The Southern states that wanted separation from the Union were no longer being represented by that union's centralized government, so they decided to go it alone, and trade with other nations without the financial penalties the federal US government wanted to impose on them.

Why do you think the federal aggressors blocked the main harbours of export from Southern states, to nations like England and France, who wanted to purchase the raw materials produced in those states, at a price agreed upon by both parties?

The War of Northern Aggression had much more to do with the greed of the industrialized North in obtaining raw materials at the prices they deemed acceptable from the Southern states who produced them, rather then any kind of noble endeavor of freeing any slaves!!!

blah blah blah... Same deal as today, it was a conflict over doling out Federal funding - the majority of which, like now, came from the centers of manufacture and trade. Keep adding states with slavery, and the balance is upset and they get to vote themselves their unfair share of the pot plucked out of the pockets of those who made it.

Nope, southerners didn’t really start voting Republican in great numbers until the 80’s when Democrats became pro abortion.
The civil rights movement wasn’t exactly started by Democrats, they were really just piggybacking off the supreme court decision in 1954 (supported and enforced by Dwight Eisenhower, a Republican), the civil rights acts of 1957 (proposed by Herbet Brownell and signed by Dwight Eisenhower, both Republicans), and the civil rights act of 1960 (Proposed and signed by Eisenhower.)
Even in the civil rights act of 1964, more Republicans as a percentage supported it than Democrats.

2. voters also migrated around the country, changing demographics.
3. by then the migration north had settled
4. because they THOUGHT they had nothing to lose
[deleted]
0 ups, 3y
2&3 Yes there were carpetbaggers and scalawags. But they were both of a minority. Carpetbaggers were only among wealthy businessmen from the north, and scalawags were political minorities being supporters of the north’s cause. That’s why both were given derogatory names, because they were minorities. It’s highly unrealistic to think they switched location on nearly a large enough scale to totally flip the red and blue areas, especially since the red and blue didn’t really flip in POTUS elections for another 100+ years.

4 Can you elaborate on what exactly they thought they were going to lose in an election which is exactly the time to get the big bad racist orange man OUT of office?
The fact of the matter is that after slashing welfare plans made by LBJ to keep black people down, under Trump black and hispanic unemployment reached its lowest on record, and black income reached its highest ever. As it turns out, hard work is far more effective at raising your standard of living than relying on a government teat. Democrats are positively furious that Trump’s economic policies have been so beneficial, which is why they kicked the disinformation campaign into overdrive with one after the other of hoax racist quotes from Trump. As it turns out, mainstream conservatism is NOT full of racists, certainly not any more than the racism in the Democrat party. More minority voters have caught on that leftists are full of sh*t on this, THAT is why there’s more voting conservative again.
[deleted]

people (black and white) were migrating from north to south a lot in the 60s-90s to either run away from empowered blacks, racist whites, for jobs, warmer weather, cooler weather, etc. you keep trying to prove republicans aren't the party of racists, but the demographic shifts and political switching prove otherwise.
[deleted]
0 ups, 3y
Racists exist in both parties. I can refer you to Biden himself, Sheldon Whitehouse, radical BLM supprters, or the hundreds of thousands of antisemite Democrats. But the fact of the matter is judging an entire party based of the few extremists does nothing. Mainstream Republicans are not dedicated to advancing racism as you claim.

Again with the focus on race. I never once even brought up the issue of what is to blame for the disparity. It is incredibly complex because it spans multiple sectors of society, and I admit, given your general inability to properly stick to facts around here, I don't think trying to explain it to you is worth my time.

But sure, keep on blaming the whites. Or accuse others of blaming the blacks. If you make everything about race then everyone looks like a racist.
