Or they're lazy and refuse to work for a couple of years to pay it off.

Either way, it's the truth you preach.

Or the entire student loan system is a scam where $20,000 loans turn into $120,000 loans with compounding interest due to the 2008 financial depression.

Colleges complain about corporate greed while ignoring their own profit taking. College tuition increases have outpaced inflation for over thirty years. Our reverence for education and free speech prevents us from giving coleges the beat down they deserve.

However, fault lies with school counselors and parents. Very poor guidance. Counselors should be fired and parents should have to pay half the loans.

?

Why should parents be forced to pay anything?

You are complaining about the idea that the parents of these children should pay the loan back, yet the Democrats want everybody else to pay the loan back and you seem ok with that. WTF?

No, I hate the idea of publicly-funded loan refunds. I'm solely pointing out that there shouldn't be a rule that parents need to pay for a certain level of a child's college costs, as berry2690 seemed to claim.

Sucky as the 'who's paying for school' situation is, that's a private matter between kids and parents, not a realm for policy of any sort.

Make the students pay out of pocket, and watch the prices drop as the university system fails.

The student, the PARENTS and the counselors together made and supported the majoring in a useless degree. The PARENTS had to sign or co-sign for loans. That's why.

They chose to enter into that contract. Unless its terms stipulate the parents pay a portion, they are not forced to do anything.

Teaching is not a useless degree.

Going into debt $100,000+ because you wanted to go to an Ivy League school to become a teacher is a very poor business decision.

Most teachers get their degrees at local universities. That's how they get their debt. If you want to teach high school, most schools require a masters degree.

Not true. Schools require Bachelors and teaching certificates to teach. Beyond that extra education is often required to advance. Bachelors, Bachelors+, Masters, Masters+ and PHD pay scales reflect education levels. If you agree to teach in many low income neighborhood schools you can get your education costs reimbursed. If you go into deeply into debt to teach for next to nothing at a private religions school, again - poor business decision.

I'm very familiar with requirements, and they will vary state to state. The link you added supports what I said: "All public schools require teachers to have a bachelor’s degree at the very least.": "If you’re interested in teaching high school or college students, you’ll MOST LIKELY need a master’s degree. Some schools DON'T require it..."

Facts don't care whether you have sympathy or not. Teaching High School, you should have a Master's and will MOST LIKELY need one. Especially since our country seems to be falling behind on education.. I wonder why.... What were we talking about again? Oh right, college debt.

Choosing not to get a masters for something that is described as "most likely need" is a poor business decision... If you want to get hired.
0 ups, 3y
I didn't describe it that way, the link you directed me to described it that way. Many schools prefer to hire a part of their teachers without a Masters because of the structure of the pay system defined by Union agreements. I will stop here. You will not find a sympathetic ear here.

Wow, why bother going to school to become a teacher then? Screw that noise.

Seal of Approval - Upvoted! And if you think that there are too many useless college majors now, just imagine how many more we will have when college is “Free”!

You gotta ask yourself why they would grant a loan like that in the first place.
0 ups, 3y
no, student should be held accountable for not doing research on their own before going into college.

What if you spend $80k on your degree, and the only place that hires you pays you only $30k a year?
2 ups, 3y
If you have a college degree and can only find a job paying $15/hr, then one of two things are at play.

Either, you made a very poor decision and choose a worthless field to major in, and you're too lazy to develop skills and find a better job.

Or the second option is you're an SJW activist covered in tattoos and body piercings, with multicolored hair and nobody wants to hire you because they know you would cause trouble.

Is this a question on how many buckets of water you have left?
