Let's not forget, the amount of petroleum ot took to mine the materials to make the batteries. Now let's look at the environment around such mines...great job pushing the trouble down the line...

People only take it to the point of convenience, it is never taken full circle.

And the Hydro power in California will be shut down this summer because of water shortages and fire chances. All hail renewable energy!

Party On - - Upvote for you! - And don’t forget the devastation to the earth from Lithium mining, and all of the nasty byproducts that are produced when the batteries, and all of the other car components are built.

True, but most studies still show a net reduction. Admittedly, not all though.

If climate goals are met and more production goes green, that will further reduce numbers.

The lithium in batteries is more of an issue. Luckily, there are developments on that front.

If more and more people buy electric cars, how much more coal is going to be burned?

Do electric car owners pay the tax up front, that we pay at the pump? They use the same roads. I wonder of that initial investment includes some funky tax for the roads.

There are some places (Colorado for one) that keep trying to pass a mileage tax. So, that makes sense for all-electric vehicles to pay their share, but ICE vehicles shouldn't have to pay at the pump & pay a mileage tax, IMHO.

There's also the debate of what do we do about visitors or people just driving through the state? They're driving on the roads but not "paying their fair share".

Gas taxes are a bad idea. . .mileage tax is an even worse idea.

I actually read something about that a while ago. The answer is, it probably varies by location and they are still kind of figuring it out.

Triggered much?! All I was doing was pointing out the electricity is not, for the most part, clean energy. So you libturds that think you're saving the planet by driving an electric car...well...not exactly.
