"Put America first" You mean let the Russians fund his campaign, let 500,000 Americans die of COVID, create scrambles for toilet paper, renegotiate NAFTA so now other countries can put tariffs on the US products, and become friends with Kim Jong-Un?

That's gotta be a fake tweet. That doesn't sound like something Tulsi Gabbards would say plus Trump is the first president to get us off OPEC oil. Biden just could not wait to get us dependent on foreign oil. That is part of what the Dems call, "reversing Trumps evil policies", because why produce our own oil when we can be Saudi Arabia's bitch.

Real Tweet

https://twitter.com/tulsigabbard/status/1065289231977738240?lang=en

Nov 21 2018
President Trump said Tuesday the U.S. would remain a "steadfast partner" of Saudi Arabia despite American intelligence agencies' conclusion that the country's de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, ordered the killing of Jamal Khashoggi. The Saudi dissident journalist was murdered in Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. Trump defied bipartisan pressure to impose tougher sanctions on Saudi Arabia, and said he would not cancel contracts to sell military equipment to the country's government. Trump said in a statement that it "could very well be that the Crown Prince had knowledge of this tragic event – maybe he did and maybe he didn't!" But he added that canceling the arms sales would be "foolish" because Russia and China would get the business instead.

I'm merely reporting because Lord Captain Shrubbery said that it had to be a fake tweet and wondered why she would have sent it (i paraphrase). The tweet is real, and that is from a news story the day she sent it.

I'm a little disappointed in Tulsi. I had respect for her because she was the only Democrat candidate that wasn't a clone of the rest of them.

That is also disappointing about Trump. But Trump was never the president I wanted.

I personally don't pay much attention to senators and congressman who aren't in my district. Maybe I should. But I have uncles who post every couple of months that "we've got to vote Nancy out!" "We've got to vote AOC out!". You don't live in their districts. You don't get a vote.

When our country was founded the founding fathers intended that all of your political attention should be focused on the local guys. They were supposed to have the 2nd most political power. The most political power is in the individual. After that it is your mayor and city council and so on, then it is the county, then the state and the ones with the least political power was the federal government.

We have the exact opposite of that right now. I am not sure when it switched. It could have been with Abraham Lincoln. In order to free the slaves he had to pretty much gut the 10th amendment with regards to states rights. The states had more political power than the federal by design. Lincoln flipped that.

The slaves had to be free and I really wish there was another way that could have been done without neutering the states.

That might have been the catalyst.

I think the news media might have been the major influence. First with newspapers that started to be sold outside of the cities they represent. Then TV came in and national networks came into existence. They had to appeal to entire nation so they focused on the federal government and not the states or cites.

I also should pay more attention to the local politicians because they do make policy that does affect us. We just never hear about it because TV local news revolves around the state and the biggest city in the state and national news is the nation with a very small fraction about things happening around the world.

I know the folk wisdom says that small government is better, but the fact is most of our growth and move to federal was necessary. I'm sure it could have worked the other way, but I doubt we would be the super power we are. Many of the early regulations were pushed for by industry and the people. "As a result, a group of independent regulatory commissions emerged as the 20th century dawned. The first of these agencies was the Interstate Commerce Commission, set up in 1887 to monitor abuses in the railroad industry. Reform movements of the early 20th century demanded that government regulate child labor, food processing and packaging, and working and living conditions for the laboring classes." The new deal and WWII are really what grew the government. But think about the sacrifices made across the board. There was a lot done to win WWII like food coupons (rationing), scrap drives, etc.

the local politician thing - 100%. Some people only pay attention to who runs for President...but where does the candidate usually come from?

I also know that one of Trumps things was "eliminate 2 regs for every 1 new." I laughed at that one. Like politics aside it was arbitrary. I'm sure there are regulation heavy areas...but there are also probably areas that keep things slim. Wouldn't it suck to be a group that had worked hard to keep things to a bear minimum...and now you are being punished where those with a lot of fat are in essence being rewarded. I know what was intended with it but I don't think it was a good way of doing it.

I like things like building inspectors, safety codes, etc. I know some people who are against all regulation and i don't get it. I like knowing restaurants are supposed to wash dishes at a certain temperature; that they are inspected.

Taken as a whole, they seem like a lot but its like looking at how much you spent on groceries throughout the year all at once. The move to federal over local to is sometimes just a matter of it not making sense to reinvent the wheel. I work in a regulation heavy industry and higher level federal regulations are generally better written than the local ones, better and more often updated, etc.

As far as newspapers and the media...yeah probably, but most people read their local papers.

Find a book call The 5,000 Year Leap by Cleon Skousen. He talks about what made this country cause a leap in technology that had never been seen before. In 200 years we advanced mankind what would have taken all other civilizations 5,000 years.

It happened in spite of the government and not because of the government.

There is a very common misconception that I hear a lot from the left. It is the notion that we need the government to make sure businesses are kept in line. If the government didn't exert control over the corporations that they would take over and control our lives.

And because we have never seen any different we seem to think that is the best situation.

While the government has you focusing on corruption in the business world the are turning more and more corrupt and evil. The last think you would ever want to do is give the government any more power even it is just over businesses. All it ever does is kill jobs and cause the cost of living to go up. The more power you heap on government the less freedom we have. The government is more than happy to promote that myth.

As Reagan said, "The government is not the solution to our problems, the government is the problem".

I never heard Trump talk about repealing 2 regs for every new reg.

SAG Pres included.

Trump actually talked about that one a few times. I think it was a campaign promise, and he enforced it with an executive order:
https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2017/02/03/2017-02451/reducing-regulation-and-controlling-regulatory-costs

The government, corporations and the media don't want you to believe things. All of these are based on a view where these 'groups' are somehow independent of the people who comprise them. It also often requires a level of coordination among the people that make it up that isn't really believable.

When you say the media is lying you are accusing individuals of lying, which is well and good, but we can address that. When you say the government is corrupt, you either mean the structure or the people in it. If you want me to take any such accusation seriously, you have to be able to quantify it.

I'm not saying you can't say that a corporation did something - that is just the way we talk, but there needs to be the understanding that when we say that we mean the people who are part of it.

When you disassociate the group from the people you begin to make mistakes and assumptions that are difficult to recover from.

The democrats are rigging the election - who? Poll workers? Random people? Are they organized?

The CDC is lying about the number of COVID cases - but the CDC just compiles data from submitted death certificates and reporting. You are actually accusing a lot of individual unaffiliated coroners of lying.

Schools are pushing an agenda - you mean teachers. And hey, teachers are college graduates, statistically college graduates are more often on the left.

The democratic party has shifted Left; the republican's party has shifted right - because the voters who make it up have shifted. Not all of them, but the party that wants votes has to put out policies palatable to the greatest number.

So, back to topic - we need government to keep business in line because we haven't seen different. - but we have. That's the point. We didn't have regulations on child labor and kids didn't go to school and worked from sunup till sundown. Slavery wasn't illegal; slaves. Dumping toxic waste in water.

The free market absolutely requires these regulations because the competitive requirements to push costs often mean if you won't someone else will.

Most regulations are like putting "for the love of god don't drink this" labels on chemicals. We shouldn't have to, but we do have to.

LOL!! If there was anyone in this country who is more deserving of criticism it is our politicians, past, present and future. Well... maybe not the future. None of us are prognosticators.

And it doesn't matter which party. I left the Republican party several years ago. For a long time I was registered "undeclared". Then I join the Constitution Party. I seriously doubt I will ever see a candidate from that party win anything national, especially not the presidency but when I joined that party I joined with the attitude that I'll give them a try and if they are sell outs like the R's and D's are then I'll dump them also.

She seem to be above that kind of language. I would never vote for her but if she had won in 2020 I would have thought at least she has a brain and some common sense. She just seemed a whole lot more presidential than any of the other rabble that was running in the Democratic primary.

What artificial plane of existence do you inhabit?

You need some brushing up on American History, son,
Start with:
The Articles of Confederation
Then the US Constitution
Washington and Federalism
Lincoln and Nationalism
Bringing the South out of the Third World with the New Deal
Post WWII
Post 1960s
