the vaccine may have helped reduce the # of cases but the virus was eliminated in large part to better hygiene, nutrition and the natural course of the virus itself . nearly all viruses weaken as they spread and mutate ( few exceptions) and natural herd immunity takes over. all polio cases since 1979 were caused by the Attenuated vaccine: in other words all cases since 1980 have been caused by the vaccine! not to mention 100's of thousands of cancer cases caused by the monkey virus that contaminated the inactivated vaccines ot the late 50' early 60's .
