The USSR? With arms supplied by the USA?
Even after Reagan created and funded Al Queda in 1979, it still wasn't in control of Afganistan in 1994 when the Taliban took over.
Even with Pakistan and Saudi's backing, the Taliban fell in a mere two weeks after the US invaded.
It was our desire to not repeat the mistakes of 1979 and leave the country in the midsts of civil war between various warring factions that lead us to stay there. Any return of the Taliban or whomever else in out absence could have been slapped down twice as fast.
Invading, conquering, and occupying are different animals, and the longer time spent at any, the closer you get to witness their ultimate end.
Sure, the Taliban has caused trouble, but were in no position to take over. At least not till Trump basically signed the country over to them and withdrew our forces after nearly two decades of fighting for nothing.
At the home front, no air conditioning and folks drop like flies, no heat in winter and people die of thrist with alien snow right outside their windows.
No deliveries to the Walmart and people will surrender - begging for Hot Pockets and toilet paper - quicker than you can say "Mission accomplished."
Jan 6th, Mar 4th, today, nothing.
Other than random psychotic idiots looking to shoot up kids at school or breakfast at McDonalds, those dreaming fantasy insurgencies will have to settle for CoD on the console.
