I'm being sarcastic because while it would be great for the person who is having their mortgage forgiven, it would be entirely unfair, and pretty much pure socialism, to force the American public as a whole to pay for my, or anyone's mortgage, or as a more practical matter, student loan.
Thank goodness mortgage loan forgiveness is only being used as a device to show how ridiculous student loan forgiveness truly is.
Let's look at the fairness angle of student loan forgiveness. If you fall into one of the three following categories, would you want to pay back someone else's student loan?
- Let's say you're a person who went to college and worked 30 hours a week to pay for your schooling, so you would graduate without student debt.
- Or you're a parent who sacrificed all their life to save money to pay for their child's education, so that child would *not* have to work 30 hours a week while they're in school.
- Or you're someone who decided that going to college just isn't for you, so you somehow pay on your own to go to a trade school, or some other form of specialized education, so you can get a job in a field like plumbing, or HVACR, or some other 100% worthwhile and necessary line of work.
So, let's just say you're one of those people, and now you're being told by AOC and her crowd that, and I quote: "Entire generations of working class kids were encouraged to go into more debt under the guise of elitism."

I would wonder who had held a gun to the heads of these people and forced them to sign a loan agreement, saying they would pay back money they were given for their education. Who says they should now not have to pay that back, and that US taxpayers should?
Who says that the people who should pay back that loan for them is someone like me? Why should my tax dollars go to pay back a loan that AOC thinks was some kind of scam, even though there's no rational person who would say that it was?
This boils down to dividing us. Making one segment of society pay for the education of another segment, when there's no moral nor legitimate reason that they should.
The bottom line is I don't want to pay for the education of some kid whose parents are wealthy, who got an Art History degree, and now can't pay back their student loan because nobody wants to hire an Art History major to fix their toilet or their home's heating system.
That is why I'm being sarcastic. Because reason and logic don't seem to work.
