Yeah, the movie is about 50 years old but I'm not going to ruin the ending. There may be some people who haven't seen the movie (because it is 50 years old) and it was made in the early 70's and from about 1966 to Star Wars most movies in those years SUCKED!!!!!
I disagree - check out the nominees for Best Picture Oscar starting at 1966. Sure, maybe they didn't have the great CGI, but maybe that's not a bad thing. How terrible would the original Jaws been with a CGI shark the whole way through? What you DIDN'T see is what made it good.
Did you know one of the writers of Blazing Saddles was Richard Pryor?

I think I had heard that. I know that he was originally cast for Clevon Little's part. I just can't imagine Richard Pryor playing that part anywhere near as good as Clevon Little.
There were a handful of movies between 66 and 1980. Mel Brooks did his best ever comedies in the 70's (Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles and High Anxiety. The Producers was pretty good also). Monty Python and the Holy Grail came out in the 70's. I haven't seen them since the 70's and I don't remember them too much but everyone thinks The Godfather movies were great. John Wayne and Clint Eastwood were making good movies. Paint Your Wagon was perhaps the best musical ever because it was funny and featured probably the two worst singers in the history of musicals (Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood).
But sooooooo many movies were liberal message movies and they absolutely sucked. They were as boring as watching the lawn grow.
To a certain extent Hollywood tried to bring back boring message movies again in the 2000's but then Marvel decided to kick their butts. And right now the funniest comedies are made by Marvel (ie Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2 and Thor: Ragnarok). Thor: Ragnarok was funny because of Taika Waititi which was a huge risk considering Taika Waititi's New Zealand comedies were not at all funny at all.
All of the other comedies of the last 20 years all have to be dark. At some point you would think that people in Hollywood get tired of dark comedies, but no, they just keep making them. Zzzzzzzzzz
I'd be surprised if anybody hasn't seen this one, but no spoilers. I didn't see Soylent Green when it came out, in fact I think the first time I saw it was in the '90's
That's awesome! Fact is, no there may not have been really good scifi in that period, but Charlton Heston did three of them, the aforementioned Soylent Green, Planet of the Apes, and The Omega Men. All stand the test of time.
