Those are probably petrochemicals, solvents designed to dilute the ice into a solution that has a higher freezing temperature.

Could also be a heated Propylene Glycol solution (the same chemicals used to de-ice and anti-ice aircraft).
2 ups, 3y
Propylene Glycol is a petrochemical

No, it turns out that it was hot water.

I mean, greta has the best of intentions but the texas thing has proven that we cant rely on green energy sources on all climates. I say we need both green energy and fossil fuels

Wind turbine shutdowns accounted for less than 13% of the total current power outages in Texas.

Well by all means let me believe Mr. Kahn here before I credit my family who actually live near a wind turbine farm. They can frame his post right beside their photos of bald eagles they found killed from the turbine blades.

Green energy and free bald eagles for lunch? win/win. ;P

Also.. from the above article..

"Carbon emissions used to de-ice a turbine using a helicopter are dwarfed by the carbon emissions from coal- and gas-fired power plants. By Keton Joshi's calculations, the carbon emissions from de-icing a turbine actually saves two days-worth of emissions compared to coal-fired power. The report by Alpine Helicopters found a similar climate benefit. De-icing a 3 megawatt wind turbine was a better option than not doing anything at all. This is both from a financial and environmental perspective.”

Oh nice. Swe don. Duh.
But the only point being that the green energy of wind and solar cannot self sustain and require the very resources they don't want to use.

If fossil fuels are the very resources they don't want to use and windmills+ helicopter still requires less fossil fuels, idk where you're going with that (?)

I'm just saying that about the people that push to eliminate fossil fuels
0 ups, 3y,

Somehow I doubt they (or in the above example specifically Greta) view eliminating fossil fuels as an immediate all or nothing type goal. Gradual reduction seems better than nothing.

Yeah. Completely haulting pipelines the way biden did is not the way to do it tho.

As far as fossil fuels, halting that construction leaves us exactly where we were during the trump administration.

What sense does that make?
How abt you pay for your burger. I'll go start making it. Actually i think I'm gonna leave and not make your burger so now you don't get one. What are you mad about? You started without a burger and now you still don't have one. Your in the same position so stop complaining.
0 ups, 3y
Correct. As far as eating I'm in exactly the same position I was in before.. Still in need of some type of fuel/caloric intake.......... But burgers were cut off so I guess I'll have to go get me a bowl of soup or some other type of food.

If you're trying to say I was screwed monetarily and want my money back/you want contractors or whoever to give back possible(?) money to that Canadian oil company ok.... But that would be a separate argument.

Congratulations on doubling down on that logic. We do not measure things that way in reality. Have a good day. Until the next meme🤠
0 ups, 3y
I understand that just because the pipeline construction has stopped we're not going to just immediately/easily switch over to solar or whatever like would be possible with food.. but on the other hand if the goal is gradually less "burger consumption" idk how completing yet another burger pipeline would be a step in the right direction either.

Dammit now I want a burger.
:P

What? How is haulting it not have a negative impact as to the momentum we had going prior to Jan 20th?
0 ups, 3y
??
We're talking about fossil fuels...not "momentum".

Prior to this there was no oil/fossil fuel flowing in the pipeline.

After this there was no fossil fuel flowing in the pipeline.

We're exactly where we were during the trump administration.

The grid here is in drastic need of update. The population and demand growth have far exceeded the supply for years. Rolling brownouts every summer when people get home and kick up the ac. Fireplaces, generators and diesel trucks are the only saving grace right now, at least you here in the sticks.

Years ago in New Mexico, I worked at an experimental facility called general compression or something like that, while the idea was novel, it took something like 10 times the energy output with wind turbines, solar steam engines and fossil fuel engines to pump the air in caves than the energy they got out of it. Perhaps the tech has become more efficient but I would not call it the way forward...
1 up, 3y
the new tech is 80% storage efficient. The storage vessels are those propane truck tanks. It's really come along way. Real interesting story tho

You obviously haven’t seen the news. They had record break temperatures and last I checked Texas is a hot state. So they probably didn’t realize that there would be extreme cold. And what are you trying to say?
1 up, 3y
Maybe the point is they intend to put them in states that have weather like that, EVERY WINTER.
(And they already actually do)

They don’t make electric powered helicopters. Apparently you didn’t know that thoug.
