Really, you asked that I'm surprised you don't know the why even if you disagree with the claims.
Basically they think they will be able to bully some of them into not defending and have done so to weed out the field of possible cases.
If Dominion Smartmatic is as connected as it appears to be then funds may well be forthcoming from all sorts of directions to pay the legal costs and so this common maneuver to intimidate the smaller party will have a barrage of claims added to answer even before they get to the heart of the problem. This technique may well succeed if the people they were up against aren't so sure of their claims or don't have the funds. It's a prime example of why most people really don't have any defense from the actions of those wealthier than themselves in a courtroom environment.
In answering to the claims of foul by Dominion not one prominent party or corporation has offered to retract their claims against Dominion and most have stated they will defend their claims. So that should be interesting to see how that litigates.
