So Socialism to me is EVERY human receiving quality healthcare when and where they need it. (Doctors and nurses will make the same pay they do now.) Its quality public education for everyone up to grade 16. Imagine a world where the vast majority are college educated. Imagine the productivity.
Socialism is quality infrastructure, roads, healthcare, education, transportation, internet, no homelessness, etc.

These are LITERALLY the things that drive and motivate me.

What you describe is closer to government programs that are socialist while maintaining the free market (where the means of production and distribution are owned privately).

In the US every hospital since the 1960's have been required to provide emergency care regardless of whether a customer can pay. There have been programs and money set aside by hospitals to serve a certain number of people that can't afford it. There are also government programs like medicare and medicaid along with state programs that do the same.

I agree with the dictionary definition of what socialism is its both 1, 2, and 3. Except it doesn't stop at communism. It moves on to totalitarianism like in North Korea and China.
This is the inevitable end to the process as those that are corrupt are rewarded and eventually someone that is corrupt takes control and removes the ability of the people to change anything.

I agree that a lot of people in both parties are corrupt and are owned by special interest lobby's. Then there are those that are too afraid to take action because they don't want to anger anyone or lose votes. They know that if they go against the lobbys they'll fund their opponents in the next election.

One of the main issues I see with your worldview is that you expect people to do things for free while maintaining their incomes or profits. This is not possible without massive increases in taxes which would then be paid out to individuals. That alone would cause massive corruption and imbalance in the economy. What if we suddenly don't need doctors (like a 50% decrease) should doctor's still get paid the same? What if food becomes super cheap to grow and process? should we then still pay the providers the same amount they were getting? How do we get the government to lower the prices they are paying.
We can see massive issues with medicare pricing to demonstrate this.

plus I am aware of the programs you speak of like Medicare, Medicaid, as well as laws governing insurance. But in practice, its not as ideal as we would hope. There is all kinds of red tape, and exceptions to rules. There are general qualifications that disqualify so many. I needed a procedure to check on the progress of an enlarged heart valve. My insurance decided that it was not necessary. The test site wanted $1200 up front. Like Bernie always says, an unexpected $400 expense will devastate most families. I had to skip the procedure. I went through the appeal process and it took me nearly a month, a hearing in the city, a phone conference, a dozen emails, several faxes, and was still rejected. Plus I know people who have to go on NYS health and its still not free and causes a burden to them while unemployed with bills and rent.. And don't get me started on COBRA. Its not a the rosy picture of solutions that you present.

Regarding the problem like a drop in demand for doctors, or a surplus of food items....These are things that I expect administrations at various levels to work on as they arise. its not so dissimilar to what happens now. And I seriously doubt there would be a decrease in demand for doctors. But you are getting way too esoteric.

Democratic Socialism is a form of socialism that takes our existing democracy and Capitalism and simply makes some adjustments. The benefits is that our democracy provides the checks and balances necessary to prevent corruption of these ideals.

But even if some of the elements of Democratic Socialism seem unattainable, I assure you that it is not done with malice. Quite the opposite. We wants what is best for the 99% of the population, and there should be room for discussion instead of insults. Democratic Socialists are good people and loyal Americans who care.

I think your heart might be in the right place, but I don't think you are accounting for the corruption that would happen. Medicare is a sign of how bad it would be. Imagine every system for every American run like medicare.

There is a law that forces insurance companies and hospitals to charge the same price for goods and services in medicare/medicaid that they charge non-medicare/medicaid patients. So the insurance companies simply charge everyone more money than they should.

Socialists believe that everyone should have meaningful and productive FULL time work and work a 40 to 60 hour week and that you should be able to afford all the bare necessities of life based on that paycheck. And if that means that Jeff Bezos has to only make $100 Million per day instead of $212 Million per day, then so be it. If he does not want to do that then I am sure someone else would. And if someone want to work beyond that, or put in extra effort, then they are free to earn more to buy a nice car, or a playstation, or a trip to Disney World. And if they want to become millionaires, then kudos, as long as their employees are sufficiently employed. There is plenty of money to go around without the hoarders like the top 1% who hold 90% of the wealth.
