"Intolerance of infidels: Deut 13:6-16, among others"
Yes, the entire country signed a contract to only worship God. Part of that contract is not worshiping other Gods. Notice it doesn't say kill random people that worship other Gods. Its specifically talking about the Israelite people. Also note that the 'surrounding' Gods rituals included child rape and spreading of deadly diseases.
"Slavery: Exodus 21, Lev 25:44-46, Deut 15:12-17, 1 Peter 2:18"
Deut 15:12-17: If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing
Not slavery that's indentured servitude. There are a lot of stuff about freeing them from service and how they should be treated like normal people and not slaves.
Lev 25:44-46: Either his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself
They can buy their freedom. Once again this is indentured servitude not slavery.
1 Peter 2:18: Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
Try reading the (old) king James. In those days there were slaves and servants. This is clearly talking about servants.
"Sex outside marriage, homosexuality, sorcery and witchcraft don't put a community at risk. And even if they did, execution shouldn't be the punishment."
Back then they were deadly. No cures, no treatments. Go read up on common STDs today and what happens without treatment. They didn't even know to wash hands after handling dead things. Diseases ran rampant until they were given laws to 'purify' themselves by cleaning up after touching things.
"The Bible makes it clear that Hebrew slaves had to be set free every seven years, but non-Hebrew slaves only had to be set free every fifty years. Given the average life span back then, that was basically a lifetime of slavery for many people. Exodus 21 also says you can beat your slaves viciously as long as they don't die right away. Yes, it was very much like American slavery."
You missed a few things. They had to be treated like everyone else (and yes getting beaten was done to everyone not just slaves) Because a single mistake back then could mean the deaths of hundreds. They were treated much more humanely than civil war era slavery.
