South Korea has 9,786 cases with 5,408 fully recovered and 162 deaths.

Math

162 / 9,786 = 0.00633558 or approximately six tenths of one percent. Granted we don't know how the other 4,378 people will fare but based on the Diamond Princess, a semi-closed environment, the 0.6% death rate seems plausible.

To get percentage you’d divide 162 by 9786. Which you stated but did wrong. It’s 0.016554261189454 which is 1.66% if you round up.

The bigger issue is people like lokair downplaying the facts. 1.6% is not a great number. Considering the transfection rate. Worldwide it’s 4.5%, in the US is closer to 1.9%
When you take it out to the potential numbers of say 100million people getting it (if ONLY) and Even if we knock it down to 1% (which is probably never going to happen) that’s a million dead Americans.
