There is no definition of “socialism” that can survive the distortions and exaggerations of GOP propaganda. | REPUBLICANS MILLENNIALS CAN’T DEFINE SOCIALISM OR COMMUNISM!* NEITHER CAN WE REPUBLICANS *AND OUR OWN PROPAGANDA IS WHY | image tagged in memes, running away balloon, socialism, socialist, millennials, propaganda | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Lmao the terms “socialist” and “communist” are so tremendously overused and abused in American political rhetoric (and by right-wingers around here) that it is no wonder

In reality there are two definitions of socialist: The proper one found in the dictionary, and the rhetorical one used primarily by the American right to mock any position to the left of the Republican Party

Example: By the first, proper definition I am not a socialist. (And neither is Bernie and 99% of his supporters.) https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism

By the second definition, I am a raging socialist all day long. And so is Bernie and all of his supporters. And, by the way, Joe Biden and every other Democratic candidate who ran in the primaries, depending on how far you are willing to stretch that term.

And just in case you're confused- there is only one definition of socialism.
And conservatives don't like it for the peril it brings to every nation it visits.
Why peril? Well I'm so glad you asked.
The USA currently is more socialist than most of the countries that bernie sites as socialist countires. You know what bolsters the economy and allows for all the welfare programs we have? CAPITALISM.
With the amount of money it will cost to support our very large population there will be nothing left to support the people who actually needed it in the first place.
That is all that will come of Bernie's BS Brand of Socialism.

Oh great, now we get to be lectured by KF about what the definitions are for socialism and communism. Hold my popcorn while I go get a beer...

Well, I live in the US now, but I came from a socialist communist country Sanders has praised so many times. I can tell you that you are ignorant and you do not know what you are talking about. I invite you to live in Cuba for a week, it will be revealing to you and will open your eyes. Just one week.

Yes, Cuba is actually a socialist country by the proper definition. And it’s impoverished and burdened by the governmental system. I actually had lunch with a friend this weekend who had visited Cuba recently and told me about her experience there.

Sanders may have praised Cuba in the past. I keep hearing about this but don’t know the context as no one provides quotes.

What’s clear though is that Sanders actually models his policies on Nordic-style “socialism,” which is not true socialism but actually capitalism with high taxes and social spending.

Sanders calls himself a “socialist,” as a pretty effective tool of political branding, but he is using the looser, colloquial and American-oriented definition.

Is not that no one provides you quotes, it is you who is not willing to do your part researching, and accept the facts that people provide you. How could you? When you have a serious level of brainwashing. It does not take much effort to google search videos about Sanders talking about Cuba. Sanders praises Fidel and Chavez, there is no looser definition there, you are just being tricked to believe that. If you want to see, first you must remove what is blinding you. Also Sanders is unelectable, he is not going to win. Precidency is a very controlled system, very predictable.

Sanders is over and done, so it's a moot point.

Next up: Biden will be a "socialist" and even a "communist" in some people's minds. Just as Obama was. Just you wait

It's just a label they slap on the latest Democratic opponent
1 up, 5y
Nah, Biden is just senile, I really doubt he can compete against Trump. But back to the point of this meme. You have tons of spoiled brats that have never lived in a socialist country, they have no idea how it is like, only what other people feed them, and they go talking about it like if it was the coolest thing ever. Then you have people like me, who been there done that, and I can tell you, there is a reason why many people from all over the world come to United States, and that is because is the land of opportunity. But you have many millennials playing the victim card because they lack a back bone to take those opportunities, brained watch by media who think that this country moving to socialism will fix all their problems.

And this fancy chart of statistics came from where? It's always funny that right wingers love polls as long as they believe it supports they're position

OANN's special report on socialism in the USA.
It's called 'Socialism Rising: American Consequences 2020'

So, you're surprised that millennials confuse communism and socialism when people so often use them interchangeably, then you want to stop calling millennials millennials because of it?

The not calling them millennials thing was a head-scratcher. What should we call them then?

It’s also totally unclear what this poll considered the “right” answer to this loaded question.

But assuming this chart is accurate and that approximately 1/3 of millennials gave the technically correct definition of socialism (something like: “Collective ownership of the means of production”), then I’m actually hella impressed at their political knowledge

Something else to consider: A young person who knows enough about socialism to recite the accurate definition to a pollster is probably more likely to actually be a socialist than not. If that’s true, it kind of turns the findings of this poll on its head

Final thought: In the interests of fairness and balance, can we get the results from boomers and other generations? How many of them accurately defined “socialism” or “communism”?

hmm. then how do you know that older folks' rejection of socialism is any more informed than the embrace of the uninformed youth? if you wanna prove that millennials are being dumb then you also gotta prove that the older folks arent even more dumb

maybe thats a problem with whoever made this chart, it's not labeled, which could raise the question of credibility, but either way

Are you sure we're talking about millennials at this point? I thought we were all grown at this point.

Sure, capitalism has its problems and can be as ugly as any other system. So instead of fixing the problem, let's throw out the whole system - or so the thinking seems to be. Believe all advertising, the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence so it must be. Everything is always the way it appears wheb we are being recruited.

There a thousand ways to say it, but some people just can't hear it.

What I find pathetic about the right is the blatant lying they do about anything they don't like. Government services and programs such as possible health care for all or free college is NOT socialism.

It would be just higher taxes. The same taxes they love to have wasted on programs and services they enjoy.

So they lie. And call it socialism to scare each other into ignoring they are just greedy and want the government to service they're wants and screw everyone else.

More simply put? They want to be taken care of
0 ups, 5y
"blatant lying they do about anything they don't like," "they want to be taken care of" Some of this same narrative is pushed by the right about the left.

I think we should fix what is wrong with capitalism by holding the guilty accountable. But that makes too much sense.
0 ups, 5y
Conservatives WANT social programs. We WANT to help those who NEED help. In order to do that we can't give handouts to everybody. This is basic common sense.
