When your point about California housing/development politics is so important only pedantic Aragorn can properly express it | EVERYONE HERE IS GETTING THIS WRONG The city council had no desire for these apartments to be built. They wanted to kill the project | image tagged in memes, one does not simply, aragorn, development, house, apartment | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
A 30% low income housing set-aside is very generous to begin with.

A 100% low income housing set-aside on the other hand is insane and all but guarantees the project won't be viable.

My strong suspicion is the city council would rather have this land lie vacant than to see an apartment complex filled entirely with low-income "riff-raff"

With this brilliant poison-pill, they can accomplish that goal while at the same time pointing the finger at the developer

Local development politics is messed up beyond belief, particularly in California

But not necessarily for the reasons the OP meme implies

I was clearly referencing her vociferous objection to Amazon HQ2, and what does her district being middle class have to do with anything?

Oh I forgot who I was engaging with. It's the perennial idiot. Well, believe it or not they do develop in middle class neighborhoods, so lower class people can afford housing in middle class districts.

Let me break it down to make it easier for a simpleton like yourself to understand:

AOC
has
never
been
involved
in
city
management,
and
her
district
is
in
fact
middle
class.

You windup monkees put too much into the Donny's style Decree by Tweet.

btw, Amazon is setting up shop in Manhattan instead, no negative impact in a neighborhood that doesn't want it, and already has distribution centers in Staten Island and in Hunts Point, the Bronx.

Do a little research before farting out yer mouth next time, autobot gimp.

And 38% blame AOC for killing the AMZN deal

Now f**k off back to retard town.

Wow, the mods deleted my response....The Daily Mail, had you actually read it...wait, reading is hard for the short bus folk. I forgot. The story was citing a poll. But I get it. You can't have your little bubble in your mom's basement busted with facts.

“At least 63 percent of Democrats, Republicans and independents, upstaters and downstaters, men and women, young and old, black and white New Yorkers agree: Amazon pulling out of Queens was bad for New York. Even 56 percent of self-described liberals think it was bad for New York,” said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg. “While some may have celebrated Amazon’s announcement to pull the plug, the vast majority of New Yorkers of every stripe thought it was bad for the Empire State."

As to your "how maths work"...meh not really

"Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Only 12 percent call her hero, while 38 percent label her a villain,” Greenberg said. “Amazon itself was seen as the biggest villain among Democrats, but Republicans and independents had Ocasio-Cortez as far and away the largest villain, followed by the local Queens activists.”

Nope, none of your awesome replies - as stupid as they are - were deleted. Seriously, at this hour, and after mere minutes?

After I saw you bring up the DM again, I stopped reading. Nothing personal, just got some UFOers to meet up with soon, and, well...

Sewmyeyes is cool, although perhaps a little too quick to anger lately. And he does get out in the world, posted apic of the van he uses for his work, and has traveled and moved far and wide in the vast expanse up there.
What he says can be backed up, and he can kick in teeth with ease while I pretzelate useless verbage hoping I sound like I'm playing rather than aiming to sound like a pretentious dolt. In fact, years ago I did it up as a parody of high falutin' dingbats, but folks thought I was serious, so it just became more plain droll with some snark.

Oh, and I don't mean the crap I say about other places, that's just me doing the tit for tat thing again. I grew up wanting to live in the country, closer to nature and away from this overcrowded menagerie.
Look at all the wannabe Presidents we have coming out of here, bunch of useless goofballs, and that's supposed to be the cream of the crop. King Bloomie is a faker and people laughed when DuhBlasio announced he was running. For real, it was on Cablevision's Channel 12 news or Time Warner Ch 1, but everytime they were showing it, I was busy doing something and didn't get to the tv in time. I have no idea who voted for that chump to be Mayor. Who woulda thunk that after Mayor Ed Koch, it was all downhill. He was so annoying, and now he seems part of the good ol' bad days.
And AOC needs to do what Al Franken needed to do and that is shut up and learn what they're doing before they open their trap telling others what to do. I did vote for her tho, hopefully they got a 3rd party candidate next time or a decent Repub because after that cauliflower nay, plantains in community gardens yay bit, her 15 was up in my book.

Yeah, civil is cool.
1 up, 5y
AOC has a number of competitors on both sides of the aisle. Last time she beat an incumbent who didn't bother to campaign. I don't think she's prepared for what's about to happen to her. The debate stage will not be her friend.

You forget something, this is MY home, fella, you capicheing me on this or what?

This ain't the first, and it aint the last - from the MABSTOA Bus Depot on Bartow Ave to the other projects proposed (and rejected) for the rest of that lot, to the similar SOCIALIST assistance to assist the building of Steinbrenner's new Yankee Stadium in a better neighborhood LITERALLY ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE OLD YANKEE STADIUM!, these protests are nothing new to us here in the Business Capital of the USA & Planet Earth.

I understand that's difficult for those whose local economies are entirely dependent on the next Walmart, but here? Not so much.

Anything else you'd like to add? Got me an eBay auction to get to in a few, and this bores me a lot?
2 ups, 5y
Oh, so it's not just any shithole - it's your shithole.

There isn't a walmart in my town. I'd say the nearest one is about 20 miles from here. This part of the country is known for agriculture, but there is also quite a bit of manufacturing. Of course, Amazon didn't get any cash incentives to build a facility in my state - because there are plenty of incentives courting businesses here. I can understand why they would want something in return for choosing a shithole.

By all means, that used d**do isn't going to buy itself. eBay awaits!

AOC irritated much of the establishment in her party, her moves to replace Pelosi and all that. Not that she should subjugate herself to some heirarchy (nor is Pelosi not irritating herself), but it IS a political orginization, so a little respect and learning how things work is in order.

Yeah, he took it for granted. Plus they gerrymandered the district as well not too long ago, half in the Bronx, half in Queens, separated by the Long Island Sound. There is absolutely no connection between the two sections, not even demographically. Previously the seat was usually Republican.

Looking stuff up about her last year, I was surprised to find out she got a big push by a rather well organized grassroots campaign that targeted a lot of young educated transplants in Queens (read: Trust fund Hipsters from Ohio, blegh. Hipsters are just so ugh...) while everyone else slept. Of course next time they'll be more prepared, but then so will she. No guarantees ether way.

But your jealousy of the most important city in the world is understandable and very much my pleasure. Do continue.

0 ups, 5y
I won't name it because I don't want people showing up. The last time someone knew what state I was in and tried to track me down, they ended up at the wrong person's workplace 120 miles away.

I like living near a small town. Being part of the community is easier, less grift. I can do charity without needing an organization backing me. Meeting the local law enforcement is easily accomplished. Best of all, I'm far enough out that I can do whatever I want - and the chances of someone caring is zero, because chances are - they're too far away to hear it (unless I'm blowing things up - that's pretty loud).

There are a shitload of people with my name in the USA. East coast, west coast, central, flyover country - I've met a half dozen people with my same name in as many states. The chances of anyone figuring out where I am is slim, and if they do - god help them, they'll need it. Trespassing laws are deadly serious here.

Fact is, I decided to lay off you weeks ago. Remember, when I deleted that inappropriate comment? In fact, I had been meaning to get back to that reply about medical insurance, but the backlog is piling up and I have been distracted by other concerns lately.

YOU started this today, and from the looks of it, I ain't the only one you got aggravated at for no apparent reason.

In case you haven't noticed, I let others set the parameters, I then follow their cues. Eh, not the most adult thing maybe, but it's more fun that way, nothing bothers anyone more than getting what they ask for, and when they treat others with dignity, I aim to return the same, albeit in my own course way.

In other words, I give people what they want. That's the purpose of this character. My memes are a reflection of them.

No negative impact? The neighborhood that was going to get an injection of Amazon cash and a large number of jobs now gets nothing. That's a negative impact.

The Amazon shop being set up in Manhattan is bringing a fraction of the jobs AOC objected to.

Being a sitting congresswoman, she has both political influence and a platform on which to deliver her misinformed opinions. To say she has nothing to do with public policy decisions is disingenuous.
1 up, 5y,

The neighborhood was going to get an injection of NEW YORKER paid tax revenue to the tune of THREE BILLION dollars utilized to displace local businesses and residents, eminent domain doesn't pluck air out of the sky and turn it into square footage in a spot of nothingness. Once that damage is done, gentrification sets in and, well, WE know the rest. This is exactly what had happened especially in Brooklyn under King Bloomie's reign (I'm surprised the other candidates aren't bringing it up), disrupting and premanently altering enighborhoods that struggled and surbived through the bad ol' days of the 60s - mid 80s when they were left to those who couldn't afford to move out to the burbs.

The Manhattan location is ALREADY built, hence the taxpayer footed temp jobs in construction projected in Queens would be unnecesary.

AGAIN - and write this down - AOC works in Federal Goverement (Congress), not New York City or State. And AGAIN, it's not even the District she represents. You all have my permission to try to pretend to refute this, and while you're at it, kindly inform me who represents mine since apparently we were misinformed when WE elected HER to OUR District.
