I have been robbed before, of like $100. No idea
if they were armed but he had a crew with him, so I just forked over the cash and skedaddled.
Ironically, later I defended a robber in a pro bono case. That guy also stole $100 from his victims. The dude’s accomplice had a firearm and brandished it (only a BB gun actually). They were arrested by police about 10 minutes later and also caught on videotape.
The evidence against him was overwhelming, so I had to get him to take a plea bargain to prison for close to 10 years. It was a Class A felony (armed robbery) even though the other guy was holding the gun, and no one was injured in the event. If he’d gone to trial and lost he could have been looking at 20 or more.
It wasn’t the same guy. That would have been a conflict of interest. :)
Some folks would recommend carrying a gun on you in case of such events. I don’t feel the need to, myself. I think introducing a gun into a situation like that has a better chance of escalating than defusing it.
I try to never carry so much cash on me that I would ever feel the need to fight for my life if threatened for it. You can always make more money but you can never get your life back.
