Even if we COMPLETELY cut out defense spending, as in not spending a single cent on military, we'd still be deep in the red. It's not a huge chunk of federal spending, and certainly not as big a factor in the bankrupting of our system as you want to play it up as. You're also completely ignoring the technological innovations created through the DoD that eventually reach the civilian market. I'm against our rampant interventionism, and if any cuts to the military should happen it should be in disentangling ourselves from overseas commitments like NATO. We spend so much because we've got our fingers in so many pies. Bring our troops home, leave Europe to itself, and you'll see far more of the defense budget go towards real technological innovation rather than defending countries that won't defend themselves.
