I don't understand it either. We had a great time with railroads when they could go faster than 40mph and get you between cities on a morning commute. Now it's like we just gave up on them entirely.

too true. i don't want people to give up their cars. the main reason i posted this was to experiment imgflip's reaction. i argue that trains are better because more than a healthy amount of americans are under the impression that more cars is better for transportation simply because of point-to-point travel and doorstep transit, despite the lack of space we have for highways.

You definitely got some interesting reactions! I can only drive my car so far and there is just too much hassle for me to take planes unless there’s no other choice. Amtrak definitely needs some funding to upgrade their railways and trains, but it’s one of those projects where I won’t mind taxes going up a little bit to get it across the nation.

i'm personally for privatized rail projects like brightline and texas central, but amtrak definitely does need a boost. i made a map of what amtrak could potentially look like if privatized. it doesn't include regional or commuter rail, as of now. let me know if it opens.

the irony is that we pay more taxes for roads than amtrak. if amtrak is privatized, taxes would barely go up if at all.
